My group and I are level 5 of our current campaign with new characters, I am Tua the Tortle, a Tempest Cleric with a devotion to Talos.
But I am really really tired of speaking super slow and am looking for a plot turn to basically turn my slow plodding (slightly dumb) Tortle into a more manageable role play with a faster rate of speaking and maybe some personality change. Basically plot line to date was I was at sea, saved by Talos after being captured by pirates and now have made a devout pledge to support Talos.
So far, I have come up:
1. I have actually been cursed and in reality just talk really quick without much other backstory change. Would need some sort of curse removal quest idea. Or could just get bonked on the head.
2. Talos could be the one that cursed me to be dumb and slow, and I now have sworn vengeance and would have to find a different god to follow or just be filled with wrath and anger and go down that road, possibly change my cleric type (my DM would allow it).
3. Could multi-class as a way of swearing vengeance against Talos for turning me into a mindless slow dumb follower and turn into an assassin type rogue/cleric multi-class. Again, would love suggestions on what type to multi-class into if we go down this road (a pact making Warlock, an angry assassin rogue, etc).
Of note, I'm really enjoying my storm based Tempest cleric, but really just dislike the dumb slow speaking vibe I initially gave my tortle. Thought it would be funny, but just hard to role-play.
Having played two different lizard folk, with sibilant consonants and avoiding most pronouns for a year and half, I get your pain.
Personally, I would reverse #2. Talos has decided to bless you, and it happens after you use Destructive Wrath in a dramatic moment. Because right then, Talos energized your Tortle to be his fastest Tortle ever.
I wouldn't call it a curse...because that implies it should be fixed. I am assuming you don't want to be fixed in this case :)
You could slowly increase the pace of your speech and phase it in. If anyone asks, your tortle could rationalize the previous slow speech as you thought they were the slow ones at first and this was the pace they needed.
Let's be honest... most of us aren't doing this in front of an audience. It's perfectly alright to reach a point where you and your friends just realize it's horribly difficult or inconvenient to have an unusual speaking pattern. Sometimes you realize the voice you gave your character hurts your throat and just have to start using a different voice. Or in this case, you went for a humorously slow speaking voice that's proving to be inconvenient for yourself and your party. Depending on how seriously your friends take the roleplay of the game, you could either go for something serious like a change in class, subclass, or God... or you could go as silly as finally getting a cup of coffee and suddenly you speak at normal speed.

instead of rouge/cleric, do paladin (oath of vengeance)/Cleric
