These 2 subraces are the only elves that have not had any official Half-Elf variant heritages published for them (because they didn't exist when the SCAG came out). Without any official lore, I find myself wondering what makes the most sense for the outcome of a human and one of these beings of nature or shadow getting down to business. Would they just produce half-elves, plain and simple? Or are they too infused with planar energy to allow such a thing, and instead just breed another full-blooded eladrin or shadar-kai? Can they even reproduce at all?
I'd love to get other folk's ideas about this little enigma.
The way I see it you would get a half-elf. Just because there isn't a specific subrace officially, doesn't mean you can't create one, or prevent you from using a normal half-elf. As for planar energy being a problem I would say no because otherwise you wouldn't have Aasimar or Tiefling (which originally, pre 5e were described as Planetouched).
There have been snippets of lore here and there Pre-5e, that you can never get a full elf from anything but a elf and elf paring (This was covered at one point in a 3rd ed Eberron book specifically).
So there isn't anything specific that says an Eladrin/Shadar-kai can't have half elven children(AFAIK)...but of course a DM could say otherwise. Socially it appears to be somewhat frowned one (or is heavily implied in places) based on the discussion of 'half-souls' in Mordenkainen's , but that too is a DM's world call, and not a rule.
Yeah, a half-elf, but since the elves are special variants with much more magical power, it would probably have some sort of extra abilities. i could probably home-brew up something.

You’d get a half-elf. Look at the half-elf variants in the Sword Coast Adventurer’s Guide as an example for how to design specific eladrin/shadar-kai variants. Essentially, Skill Versatility gets swapped out for a single elf subrace-specific feature. For Eladrin, I’d give them Fey Step but without the third-level improvement. For shadar-kai, I’d make it a choice between Blessing of the Raven Queen without the third-level improvement (which is identical to the Eladrin feature) and the necrotic resistance.
