Playing a kobold in my next game and I'm currently writing a notebook of hers. She just keeps it to write thoughts and noteable experiences in. She's from a tribe living deep underground that has no dragon or anything commanding it. Also she's a sorc, primarily cold and illusion based.
Not sure if you're looking for backstory ideas for your character or for others, but here's this anyway:
I'm DMing a duet campaign, and I sent my player to investigate a kobold tribe that was living above ground in an area with particularly intense sunlight. When she showed up, she found a tiny society of Pelor-worshipping samurai, all training under a Dragonborn daimyo, and all squinting horribly, trying to overcome their racial sun-blindness as a sacrificial gesture to their sun god. Immediately after PC tried to make contact with the tribe, a band of goblinoids showed up and slaughtered the poor nearly-blind kobolds and their leader, save for one. After picking up the broken sword of the leader and a scrap of his fallen banner, the last remaining kobold scrabbled up a rock formation with several goblins and an orc in pursuit. The kobold is saved when the Dragonborn uses his last breath to incinerate enough of the goblin warband to send the rest into a tactical retreat.
Now my player has a new party member, a level 1 kobold fighter named Eks whose life missions are to restore his clan's banner, repair the ruined sword, and overcome his fear in order to take vengeance on the orc that led the raid. Such cinema, much emotions.
