My favorite so far is probably Calius, the Dark Angel, one of the main villains on the Adventurer's Tavern thread. He's a fallen angel who believes that the angels of the Upper Planes just use the so-called "common good" to excuse the atrocities they've committed. He's lived for thousands of years, and though he himself is relatively powerful, it's his schemes that make him dangerous. Not once, but twice, he's made the heroes' attempts to kill him work out in his advantage. Now, due to one of the heroes, he was raised from undeath (long story) and practically became a demigod. This was when the hero in question was on a quest to kill him.
He has layers and layers of plots, stretching back for millennia. What seems to others like a straightforward move is actually just a tiny action in a larger game he's been playing since the start of time. Oh, and with midnight-black wings, steel-gray plate armor, and ghostly white eyes glowing with radiance, he looks awesome.
He's definitely not my favorite BBEG.
I can't tell whether that's an insult or a compliment. So I'll take it as a compliment.
It's the latter.
I have yet to meet this BBEG, but until I do, I think I prefer the Earl of Squirrel just because he's a level 20 druid with a boatload of squirrels.
Hmm... yeah, that sounds like it'd be a running joke in that campaign. Calius is more of a serious villain who poses a significant threat to all of Lesta and beyond. Oh, and most people in the tavern hate him more than Eris, and that's all you really to know.
Well, I'd have to say that since we're talking about ones we've run, I'll go with Acererak the Demi-Lich from S1: The Tomb of Horrors (no, gentle readers, I didn't put any home PCs through this meat-grinder of a module, only Convention goers).
If I have to pick an overall BBEG from D&D, I'll go with Iuz the Old.
If we're talking about BBEGs from anywhere, then Sauron is my all-time favorite, even if he's really only the BBEG's lieutenant....
Isn't that a guy from the grey hawk setting because i saw reference for him in GoS and thats in the grey hawk setting im pretty sure.
Yep, Iuz the Old is from The Flanaess, one of the 9 Demigods imprisoned by Zagig Yragerne beneath Castle Greyhawk in his bid to become a Demigod himself. He was freed, in canon, by Lord Robilar whom he attempted to kill but was thwarted in the process. Fun fact: it wasn't actually Iuz that Robilar fought in Gary's original campaign, but Hextor! Rob Kuntz related this tidbit years ago on a forum, mentioning that Robilar had entered the room where there were 9 statues, knowing Gary loved to have animated statues attack. So Robilar then picked the one he thought he could take down first (the toughest looking one, which turned out to be Hextor). He then touched the statue and retreated, thinking he could battle it outside the room to prevent others from animating...****y ALL OF THEM animated and began attacking each other. Rob Kuntz said he was glad it wasn't Iuz he had actually fought since his spittle could have aged Robilar.

Iuz is a demigod. I think the child of Graz'zt and Iggwilv(Or Tasha, but I'd rather not get into an argument with Brooklyn_Red_Leg about it, since I don't know very much about Greyhawk.)
Yes, Iuz the Old is the cambion (half-demon) son of the Demon Lord Graz'zt and Iggwilv the Witch-Queen of Perrenland (all 3 are divine beings).
The best BBEG I ever ran across was as a player not a DM. In one particular campaign(2e), the characters were very powerful and quite full of themselves. While exploring a dungeon, we came across a giant Ogre. Thinking that this would be an easy fight we took him on. Only after the Ogre knocked us unconscious and took most of our stuff did the DM reveal him as the DUNGEON BULLY!!
Best Bad Guy ever!!!!

I have no idea why anyone hates Eris.
I have a weird sense of humor.
I also make maps.(That's a link)
