So we just had our first child and she’s great but in the many hours I spend cuddling or feeding or rocking her to sleep I’ve been binging on D&D material to keep me sane...especially in the middle of the night. I run a few games as a DM been doing it for a long time and I admit I’m a big fan of critical role (say this make it clear I’m not a newbie glommed to CR). it’s what got me realizing I like listening to other people’s games but I’ve struggled to enjoy a number of them. I’m hoping people here can give suggestions as I’m freshly caught up on The Dungeon Run and Critical Role.
Seems like for me to tolerate a show it needs:
decent production value. Doesn’t need to be a live cast show but the audio quality has to be really good and balanced
no cringy voices. Have no issues with male or female voices unless they’re super strange, cringey, or have excessive vocal frye
great RP - I’m never going to expect crit Role voice actor level dialogue but I’m not interested in watching a pack of murder hobos run through stories
in general im looking for people better than you or I at putting on a performance. Includes both DM and players.
shows I tried to get into: TAZ balance was ok but Graduation I find dull, the regular groups on DnDbeyond promoted shows (I like Todd and Chris lots, players less so, and never got into the show hit by a sex scandal) the old GeekandSundry regulars (most any show they do), Unsleeping City on Dimension20.
Unravel is a Dungeons and Dragons show that has been running for 40+ episodes without being able to be noticed much on youtube/twitch.
The show delves deeply into character stories about morality and duty. Much of the story is already been told but so much is still coming. This is the perfect alternative for the time critical role isn't streaming.
The people that do this stream put all their effort into it but haven't gotten much appreciation yet but they deserve it.

Am I too picky?
