As Sir Bsswalot continues to head for the collapsed mine, Sofieus offers Alyndra a position on the city council. Alyndra is very reluctant as she knows nothing about the area or has even set up a permanent residence. Avren still is on probation from his council seat until he completes his community service, but Orkira is able to remove the curse making “thief” appear on his forehead. This prompts a spirited discussion with Daisy about the perceived value of objects, where she demonstrates a surprisingly matured moral compass thanks to recent instruction from whoever is offering her power. Alyndra recognizes the description as a celestial, a messenger and servant of a deity, and they convince Daisy to ask for an introduction the next time the goblin child talks with her patron.
Freely asks Daisy to come up with titles for the three new members of the group. The child announces that each must go through a trial to get their names. Orkira must place as many oranges in her mouth, and after she is enlarged with magic she manages to fit 12 which inspires the title ‘The Knight of Fresh Breath and Hunger’. Alyndra’s trial is to tell a story with shadow puppets, and she regails everyone with the story of Garanahil, the first dryad, using minor illusion and excellent storytelling. She is given the title The Knight of Wonder and Captivation, and is very pleased to add another name to her list. Finally Penelope is challenged to climb a tall tree and get as high as possible, so she wild shapes into a rat and scurries up the trunk to almost the very top, then leaps off the top! Everyone scrambles to catch her, though Alyndra’s feather fall manages to save her first. Daisy tells her she is the Knight of Bravery and Bow, though after seeing how everyone rushed to her aid she’s also given the Captain of Bravery and Friendship.
The community service that Avren must perform is helping raise funds for the local school through a bake sale. Daisy explains that they need to come up with two stands of baked goods for tomorrow’s event, and splits the group into two competing teams; Team Captain Daisy picks Penelope, Avren and Alyndra on one team, with Team Captain Sofieus choosing Freely and Orkira on the other. Team Daisy are making goodberry cookies in the shape of bugs with milk, and sets up their stands outside the Evening Nip bar to take advantage of the crowds. Team Sofieus are making orange slice pastry cake and set their stand up on the coast where lots of people like to hang out and see the gorgeous views.
Avren and Sofieus take some time to visit Bartholomew, the gnome child that was making fun of Daisy, and use their powers to appear outside his window looking terrifying and scare him into leaving the goblin alone. Then while Sofieus gathers ingredients, Avren creates fliers to advertise their stand and summons a pair of demons to pass them out around the town. Penelope uses her druid charms to get milk from the aurochs, then wild shapes into a bear to be able to carry all the milk containers. Freely is going to offer free prestidigitation cleanings with every piece of cake sold, while Orkira has taken the sail off of Falva’s Breath and fashioned it into a sign that says “Best Bake Sale At Coast” and flies over the city as advertising.
As the day comes to a close the teams make final preparations for tomorrow’s bake sale fundraising competition....

The final preparations for the bake sale are underway! Team Daisy are making Goodberry Surprise Cookies, and have set up outside the tavern. Avren’s demons are disguised as children and distribute fliers around town, then summons both his steed to look like a unicorn and his feywild friend to entertain and delight the crowd. Alyndra and Penelope help Daisy bake the batches of cookies, not only crafting delicious cookies but preventing the child from eating them all. Penelope uses skywrite to put a giant sign in the sky for their cookies, and then wildshapes into Bertrand the giant stuffed elephant to offer free pets with every cookie.
Team Sofieus are making Flumph-ernutter Cakes and have set up their stand by the ocean views. Orkira gets assistance from Sofieus in fixing the banner so it will finally fly straight over town. When the disguised demons try to drop off fliers, Freely doesn’t recognize them as fiends, but is able to convince them to add their own bake sale to the bottom of the flier. Sofieus uses her small birdhouse oven and spicy hot rock to bake on site, keeping the cakes fresh and filling the air with the lovely smells. Orkira manages to convince Sal and the bartender of the Inn to donate a barrel of ale to their table. Sofieus tinkers together a bunch of shields to create a sign that spells out “Fun Raiser” and gives off a pleasant smell, and the whole team takes shifts staying up at the stand to cook cakes all night.
As the evening ends, Freely stops by Milly’s house to catch up on a few things and ask for a favor. He requests she let the miners know about the bake sale, and she’s happy to put in a pre-order to pass out to those who’ve been out of work as the mine has been closed. She admits that her uncle and father are angry with each other because of the mine, and asks Freely to bring everyone by after the bake sale so they can consider all the pressing issues and try to figure out some answers. Before leaving Freely uses speak with animals to talk to her pet parrot to try and teach it a few more phrases, and also finds out her dad has been by the house a lot recently.
The next day Daisy’s team wins the competition, but Avren convinces her to combine both teams and finish the day working together. She rides over on her giant crab and lets Team Sofieus know to bring their cakes over to join the cookies, and everyone meets up in the town square. As the celebration continues Daisy shows off one of her new powers and casts word of radiance. It blinds most of them with radiant damage, and Sofieus admits she is worried about the kind of magic the child is learning.

Everyone cleans up after the bake sale fundraiser, including Freely and Orkira cleaning and mending the sail taken from the warship before it’s returned. Before heading to bed they check in with Sally on the submersible, who is working on ways to extend the amount of oxygen available and increasing the speed the craft can move. She warns about some of the difficulties entering and exiting it, as well as getting into and out of the water. The armor on the craft is super strong, and has an electrical field that can be used for defense, though there’s a concern that the monster they’re hunting does lightning damage. Freely suggests Sofieus can help with building and altering the craft, and Orkira wonders about a remote control so they can use it as a large bomb. Sally mulls over options as everyone heads to bed.
In the middle of the night Alyndra is pulled out of her meditation to discover her body has become translucent and insubstantial. Worried, she manages to use a mage hand to knock on Penelope’s door, only to find the druid has transformed into a hairy werecreature! Realizing something is going wrong they rush to Freely’s room to find he’s been transformed into some kind of fish monster with gills and webbed feet and hands. They rush to Orkira’s room and at first the cleric seems fine, but suddenly the easy going dragonborn becomes an angry, ferocious, pale beast with massive claws and snaps at them in fury! Suddenly she snaps out of it, changing back to normal and completely unaware of her own transformation. Realizing this might be bigger than just the three of them, they rush to Avren and Sofieus’ house. Avren skin has turned green, yellow eyes and a long hooked nose, and in his excitement about being transformed into some kind of troll he chops his own hand off. The hand becomes a crawling claw that returns to his shoulder. Sofieus has become gaunt and pale with long fangs and a thirst for blood.
The rest of the town is eerily silent, with a giant beautiful moon that feels more like a spotlight. A thin, silvery voice announces “Beware the crow’s nighttime flight, as spirits dance under cool moonlight! I’ve touched you all with endless blight. Find the curse, you have one night!” as orange bags embroidered with each of their names appears on the doorstep. The bags have a note inside that advises them to find tricks or treats if they want to fix things, and while most of the town is eerily dark, there are a few houses with porch lights on. After some discussion about if some of the group even want to remove their afflictions, they head to the first house and knock on the door. The being that answers the door is dressed in a well pressed black outfit but is missing their head. They say the head is lost and without it they cannot give any treats, and says those that stole it took it to the pumpkin patch out back. Using her new wolfish snout, Penelope catches the scent of something strange and discovers a fearsome black horse with glistening green eyes. When she casts speak with animals she learns the head is actually a very large pumpkin with a curly stalk and a bright face. With that description and Alyndra using locate object they are able to find the pumpkin head but are immediately attacked by other pumpkins in the patch!

Our cursed heroes finish slaughtering the animated pumpkins. Freely is forced to flee as his fish skin can no longer resist the urge to be submerged in water, while Alyndra continues to fade into her banshee form. The group returns the pumpkin head to their owner who gratefully passes out two pieces of candy. Everyone agrees the priority is to cure those who have turned undead and can no longer be healed. Sofieus takes one to remove her vampirism, while Alyndra takes the other before she is completely disconnected from reality. They convince the headless horseman to not throw his head at people and houses, however they still want to set the Wicker Man on fire as they’re annoyed by the candy he gives out.
The group heads to the next house with a porch light on to find an older woman with purple skin smoking a cigarette. Her fancy Halloween gown was made out of spider silk, but the spiders came and stole it back to eat it back. They’ve retreated back into a creepy, dark woods behind the house and need the group to retrieve it. She tries to give a description of the dress but her memory is very bad due to the stuff she’s smoking, but she does help Avren realize he’s actually a witch. He meets the cat that has started following him around, and manages to figure out how to fly on a broom.
Penelope turns into a large wolf spider and leads the group through the woods, tracking down the spider that stole the dress. Grif is sadly caught in the web and saved for dinner for later, though Alyndra reassures that she can resummon him from the Feywild. However Penelope has a lovely chat with the giant spider, offering some flattery, and is able to convince them to give back the dress. Sofieus and Avren try to fly up to offer the spider some meat in exchange for Grif, but they have some difficulties with the broom and manage to offer up a phantom steed before running back to safety.
Back at the house they return the dress and receive some chocolate brownies. Freely takes one Not knowing that she’s cursed, Orkira tries to convince the others to take the brownie, but they shove the treat down her throat before she can rage again. Still needing two more treats, they head for the Wicker Man where Freely sets the creature on fire, demanding the candy quickly. The Wicker Man has set up a place to bob for apples, and feeling bad the group convinces him to leave before the headless horseman shows up to set him on fire again. Penelope and Avren dunk their heads in and quickly come out with golden apples that turn into delicious candied apples, and after eating them Penelope is no longer a werewolf and Avren is no longer a witch.
As they are all cured they suddenly wake up in their beds back in the Inn, a bag of strange taffy under each of their pillows...

After the strange trick or treating event from the night before, everyone wakes up well rested in their own beds, each with a small bag containing three wrapped pieces of taffy. Sofieus immediately tries a piece and gains the ability to spit small fireballs for a short period of time, though she accidentally burns Avren during experimentation. Freely, Penelope, Alyndra, and Orkira check in on each other, and Alyndra casts identify to confirm they are magical candy that will bestow a wild magic type effect. They explain to Orkira in full how her curse made her act as she doesn’t remember when she’d change, and in the process Freely remembers he has the encode thoughts doll from Daisy. He consults Machete for help, and the cursed doll says she can help but demands her original hands back in payment.
Avren and Sofieus arrive at the Inn, and when asked about Machete’s hands they not only produce them but Sofieus is able to use her skills to add a tiny blade to one of the arms. Freely asks to be alone when viewing the memory, as he feels like that’s what Daisy would have wanted, but the group hang outside the door to his room in case something goes wrong. Machete performs a blood magic ritual with Freely’s blood, and he is able to view the memory from Daisy. The young goblin child is crying over the loss of her magic as she becomes lost in the woods. Suddenly a beautiful figure appears, with ethereal blue hair and seafoam green eyes, hair light blue and filled with sunbeams. She consoles Daisy and helps lead her towards home, sympathizing with her lost powers and how Daisy feels like she’s being punished for no reason. The stranger wonders if Daisy is too young to wield magic, but doesn’t like when things are not fair. The stranger offers Daisy her powers back, but only if Daisy will devote her life to understanding what justice is. That she must learn to question herself and the things around her, and when Daisy promises to try the stranger offers her arcane powers again. As they reach safety, the stranger says that she’ll try and teach Daisy, but she won’t be around all the time and needs to study on her own. And then the memory ends.
As Freely recovers from the memory, he asks Machete how she knows all of this magic and what she really wants. Machete exclaims that she wants to be whole again, and Freely believes that it’s time to let Orkira remove the curse. When they first had examined the doll, Alyndra and Orkira had worked together to figure out how to remove the curse without removing the sentience, and with Freely’s blessing the cleric casts the spell. Machete goes limp and stops talking, but eventually starts to slowly move and blink again. Once everyone returns to the room, Freely recounts all the details of the memory. No one recognizes the being Daisy talked to beyond that she is some sort of celestial.
Everyone heads to Milly’s house where she has cooked a massive breakfast for everyone. After some awkward moments as the sheltered dwarf is suddenly overwhelmed with the strangeness of everyone, they talk about what could be going on in Port Argent. Milly explains that after talking things over with some friends and thinking about everything that’s happened, she’s beginning to wonder if something or someone is trying to prevent her from finally tilling the new plot of land she’s acquired. It feels coincidental, but everything that has gone wrong has prevented her from finally becoming the full time farmer she wants to be. The group agree to take some time that afternoon and examine the field to see if there’s something hidden.

“If any elephant can dig, it’s Penelope!” “Penelephant?” “Eleope?” - Orkira and Freely
The group head out with Milly to the field they suspect has something hidden under the soil and begin to examine the area. She explains that about 20 years ago the former owners disappeared, and she just bought some of the former vineyard for a great price.
Penelope uses erupting earth at first, but eventually turns into a giant badger to dig more efficiently. Orkira takes Alyndra for a flight above the plot, while Freely uses his divine sense and detect magic looking for issues. There’s a weak sensation under the ground that he can hone in on, and as Penelope digs closer she can tell there’s danger in the area. Avren and Alyndra both cast unseen servant to safely dig in the area, and Sofieus has Sir Bsswalot join them to help. There’s a sudden explosion under the soil as a device is triggered, and the group discover a metallic mine that after some examination appears to be a kind of weapon. Under the weapon they uncover a giant calcified foot of some long dead lizard creature. Sofieus is able to determine the weapon is not a trap to guard the limb, but a weapon that was probably being used to attack the creature many years ago and had never been activated until just now. Under the foot Freely finds a heavily tarnished metal totem wrapped in red string that he gets a good feeling from, and showing to Alyndra she recognizes it as a kind of guardian. Freely asks Machete for assistance, and while the doll is still silent it has become more
There is some discussion about what is the correct course of action; Keep the foot hidden? Tell others about it? Keep it where it was? Move it? Everyone agrees they need more information. Some want to talk to Salame to find out more about the monster and the explosive, Alyndra suggests talking to the town children to hear the stories they tell about monsters, and Avren and Sofieus want to warn the council. The group rebury the foot and Alyndra casts alarm around the foot, Orkira and Sofieus leave warning signs, and Avren sneaks one of his coins into the dirt, and they head off to talk to Salame first. They find her at the docks working on the device they’re going to use to traverse underwater. Alyndra tries to ask questions about what they have found without giving away any information, and Sally says it’s hard to find information about any of the older creatures because there’s a superstition that thinking about and believing they exist gives them power. Eventually the story comes out and Sally is very excited to check out the remains of the bomb and hearing about the foot. But she warns that they need to be very careful about who and where they talk about such a creature.

Avren and Sofieus are called away to an official council meeting, while the other four finish chatting with Sally about alterations for the submarine to be able to harvest poop from the sea floor for more fuel. When asked about the protective totem that was buried with the skeletal foot, she remembers there’s something in her books that can help but can’t walk away as she’s supposed to be keeping an eye on Daisy on the beach. She does offer a few suggestions for a gift they can bring to Hank’s grandmother, and they eventually settle on a colorful bobblehead of Maribel, the famous goblin pantomime clown bard.
Everyone leaves Sally to work on the craft as they go to talk with Daisy, first helping her defend the baby turtles from the predatory birds, and then convincing her to help ask the celestial that gave her power to talk with them. They have a deep talk about where magic power comes from and how it’s important to try to figure out what the right thing to do in every situation. Daisy’s patron agrees to meet them in the tree house outside of town, and to make it in time they all mount up; Daisy on her crab, Orkira carrying Alyndra, and Penelope wild shaping into a giant eagle to carry Freely. They arrive with a few extra minutes to spare, so Freely asks Alyndra to examine the cave that the Barren Mother was staying in so she can look at the arcane circle, The wizard can determine that the circle is old magic, would need a powerful necromancer to make work, and was used to bring something back to life. The circle itself is not dangerous, it’s the person using it who could do something awesome or awful. Freely also can feel something under the swamp, similar to what he felt with the giant claw they found in Milly’s field.
There’s not enough time to examine the lakebed for what Freely can sense, so they focus on meeting Daisy’s patron. After a frantic moment to reinforce the treehouse so everyone can safely be inside, the Patron appears. She only speaks celestial, but Orkira is able to translate, and while she will not give her name because that gives those that have it the power to invoke her, she introduces herself as Bahādarī, which means bravery, though Daisy calls her the Lady of the Light. The celestial answers as many questions as she can, confirming that she is from this world and her main concern is balance and justice, which is what drew her to giving Daisy power. She describes how a long time ago this land was isolated by an angry God as a form of punishment, surrounded by a magical barrier that protects the island from an ocean filled with giant sea worms. There’s a breach in the barrier which lets worms in, and Krunsalla is simply the name given to one of these massive worms. If they can repair the barrier they can prevent future incursions. The Lady of Light has been trying to help those stranded here, as this all feels an unjust punishment, but her abilities and powers are limited. When Alyndra shows off the minor image of the massive claw they found in the ground, all she can confirm is that as long as the parts are separated and continue to be inert they do not have to worry about the skeletal foot. However she knows the battle between the marid and the people of Port Argent continues, indicating the fishing vessel that went missing a few days ago was in the marid hatching grounds where it shouldn’t have been.
While all the problems going on are serious, the Lady of the Light warns about her colleague the Lady of the Deep, the giant turtle God that has reached out to Avren, is in trouble as something in the water is plaguing her and her kin. Something is preventing the turtle from reaching the surface for air, and time is growing short, so the group get directions to where the Lady of the Deep can be found and rush off to help.

“Remember how we redefined ‘man’ on the battlefield? You did this to yourself!” - Alyndra
Freely, Penelope, Orkira, and Alyndra head back to town to fill Avren and Sofieus in on the new information they received from the Lady of Light. After hearing that the Turtle God is in trouble, Avren reaches out through his connection with the creature to sense their panic and anxiety, so the group rush to the coast. Between the marking on their map and Avren’s connection, they think the Turtle God is near a spot in the ocean where there used to be an island. Orkira casts sending to reschedule their meeting with Hank, Alyndra turns her familiar into an octopus and casts water breathing on everyone, Sofieus helps her homunculus grow enough to be a tentacle with an eyeball that can swim, and the two creatures are sent off ahead to scout. The rest of the team use the mechanical submersible that Salame crafted for them, now called D.A.V.E. (Deep Aquatic Vehicular Explorer) and head into the ocean.
They move very quickly through the ocean and stop as Grif and Sir. Bsswolot returns from their scouting mission. The area is illuminated by a light phosphorescence on the ocean floor, and past a massive empty turtle shell covered in paint they find the water churning and filled with dirt and blood. Giant rocks plumet through the water, and the sounds of struggle can be heard up ahead. Avren can feel the Turtle panic, in imminent danger, so Freely, Penelope, and Orkira quickly get out of DAVE to swim towards the source while Sofieus attaches her cannon to the outside of the hull. While the water breathing keeps them safe they can’t cast any spells with verbal components. Freely can sense the massive holy goodness of the Turtle God, and leads everyone forward as they dodge massive rocks, but suddenly are attacked by some dark shape in the water!

Thanks to two of our chatters for submitting these suggestions for sub names:
Freely lashes out towards the creature that swims nearby only to discover it’s a tortle riding a plesiosaur! The tortle is Sergeant Silas and is part of a small group trying to help the Turtle God, and after confirming that the group has arrived to help he takes them to the surface where the tortles have a flotilla. Silas explains that a group of sahuagin wanted the boon of the Turtle God, and when she refused they sprung a trap to chain her down to the ocean floor. They’re using weapons as well as a baby kraken to hurt her and wear her down until she will give in. The tortles are happy to work with the group, offering them air bladders so the spell casters can use verbal components. A plan is formed; Alyndra uses Sofieus’ gum to turn invisible and get to the Turtle God to cast water breathing on her, with assistance from Orkira and Sofieus. Penelope turns into an octopus to head to the baby kraken to talk with it and try and convince it to stop attacking, with backup from Freely. And Avren is going to try and land by the sahuagin to take on the attackers.
On the ocean floor the gargantuan Turtle God struggles against the chains holding her. She immediately calms as Alyndra casts water breathing on her, and Orkira uses her spiritual weapon to start destroying her bonds. Avren engages with the sahuagin, plunging them into a tentacle filled darkness. Penelope chats with the baby kraken who thinks they’re playing a fun game and not understanding the implications of their actions. But when the kraken doesn’t want to stop playing, she blinds it with an ink attack before being knocked out of her octopus form. Freely and Penelope start to attack it as well as the trebuchets it was using to fire at the Turtle God. Sofieus helps attack the sahuagin with scorching rays as their new tortle friends drop in their metal cages.
The Turtle God is able to get her foot loose and starts to break free of her binds….

Penelope and Freely continue to attack the baby kraken, eventually convincing it to flee with a combo of damage and intimidation. As it runs away Penelope sends it a little healing as she waves goodbye. Then Freely joins Avren in finishing off the sahuagin who caused all the pain and anguish. Alyndra examines the chains still holding the kraken and is able to figure out exactly which ones need to be removed so the Turtle Goddess can get free, and she works with Orkira to unlock and cut loose the chains.
As the Goddess is finally free she swims for the surface, taking Sofieus and Orkira with her. They start to both heal and chat with her as she heads for the tortle flotilla, and the rest of the team takes D.A.V.E. to the surface. The Turtle Goddess, Ahavara, is grateful for the assistance and offers the group her boon. Everyone is honored to accept it, gaining a level, though Avren needs to be convinced by Sofieus that he’s worthy. Avren is also gifted with Ahavara's Daylight, a special form of the daylight spell.
Ahavara explains that there was a magical weapon that was deployed during the war between the marids and the land people, which punched a hole in the magic wall that keeps the giant worms out. She can defeat the lightning worm and help the group fix the rift in the barrier. The group agrees that closing the hole in the barrier is a priority to prevent more worms from coming through, and she offers to take them quickly to the rift. They climb on top of her shell, where there’s waterlogged structures for the group to relax in and enjoy a long rest. When Freely tells her about the turtles they helped save at the Fair, she’s very happy to hear and she gifts him a beautiful abalone shield. She tells Penelope stories about spending time with the dire penguins, and the druid learns how to wild shape into one of them. And as everyone finally relaxes for a little while, the Goddess swims towards the hole in the magic wall.

“Oh yea! That’s true! Nature, oh you should see me when I get mad! Nature has the fury of a thousand storms! And also the will to cure and heal. But also the need to burn things down because that is the true reset! But also to grow things in its place.” - Turtle Goddess
We're back from break with our final four episodes of the show! Sadly Silver and Steel is coming to an end, our last show is Jan 26th, so come by and celebrate our last few shows and hope that we save the world before it ends!
With DAVE parked on the side of the enormous turtle Goddess Ahavara and the team riding on her back, they speed towards the hole in the magical barrier. Freely checks on Machete to find she can speak in halting words, and the doll expresses she needs help and is trapped. Alyndra closely examines the doll, including delving into her mind with detect thoughts, and figures out this was a type of necromancy binding a soul to the doll. She is confused, afraid, sad, and her consciousness is broken and fragmented, though Alyndra picks up that the soul in the doll was placed there to be a companion to a little girl. They ask Ahavara if she can try and help, and the Turtle Goddess takes the doll into her mouth to “chew” on the problem a bit, hoping a longer examination will help her figure out what to do.
As they approach the breach, Orkira casts death ward on Freely as Alyndra recasts water breathing on everyone. Ahavara blows some magic bubbles that gives everyone air helmets so they can speak underwater. And then everyone climbs into DAVE as the Goddess dives deep below the surface. The rift is massive with darkness behind it, and as Ahavara moves to start licking the rift she admits she accidentally swallowed Machete but is sure the doll will be safe. Keeping a keen eye out of the periscope for danger, Freely notices a strange ooze creature has started to surround them! The fearsome monster attacks Ahavara, but the team is able to gain it’s attention and draw it away, engaging it in battle while Ahavara finishes closing the rift!
Quotes:
“I produce the curses, I don’t undo the curses!” - Avren
“If you’re all doing heresy I will pull this turtle shell around!” - Ahavara
“It's a violent light?” “All light is violent if you get it bright enough!” - Freely and Avren
“Sometimes the best way to solve a problem is to chew on it.” “Well she’s not wrong.” - Ahavara and Penelope
“Yeah, one problem at a time! Doll, world, big worm.” “Well sometimes one little girl is the world. But ok, let’s do it.” “I put the doll first! I put the little girl first!” - Orkira and Freely
“Sofieus I love you but you build guns like you cook!” - Freely
As Avahara seals the rift in the magical barrier, the heroes manage to kill the strange snot monster that had attacked! Meeting back up on the surface, Orkira uses Sending to contact Hank and fill him in on the good news, only to hear back that the surface dwellers have attacked and the marids have defended themselves by summoning their ancient guardian Gamordia Terror of the Rift. The group realizes this continues a cycle of violence through misunderstanding; the land dwellers accidentally fished in the marid spawning grounds, so the marids attacked the fishing ships, so the land dwellers attacked the marids, so the marids summoned their guardian. Alyndra follows up with a sending, and Hank replies that he will try and buy them time to arrive and stop the fighting.
Before they take off Avahara spits up Machete, apologizing for accidently swallowing her, but says that she was able to figure out who Machete belongs to, a being named Veltara! When the group are excited to reunite the soul in Machete with their friend, Avahara casts Plane Shift and transports them all to the Ethereal Plane where Veltara sits waiting. After Avren and Sofieus share a touching goodbye with Machete, Freely starts to talk to Veltara. The group discover that this is a powerful lich who created Machete on accident when she was still a young mortal girl, and now is one of her phylacteries. She regrets losing this part of herself, a part of a good soul when she was alive, and some hope this will help the lich regain part of her mortal soul.
While it’s obvious Machete wants to return to Veltara, and the whole group feels some sympathy for the lich, both Orkira and Freely are also angry and torn. They each have reasons to fear and destroy undead creatures, and Orkira is especially upset, but both agree to hold off their attacks for the hope of a positive outcome. Freely gives her back Machete, and Avren reassures the lich that there is still something good in her, before Avahara brings them back to the Prime Martial plane.
Avren tries to talk to Orkira about how not all undead are evil, but Orkira argues that becoming undead is sad because it breaks the natural cycle of life, death and resurrection. Freely is also upset and joins Orkira in D.A.V.E, reassuring that if necessary they can deal with the lich later. Alyndra mulls over the studies she has done into the rare lich that remain good. Eventually the group set the moral questions aside to focus on stopping the war, and head towards the marid home.
Quotes:
“I wouldn’t say no to friendship!” - Penelope
“Well that was disgusting and fun.” - Avren
“A friend of mine told me that if you think about it, cooking is actually a form of necromancy, because you take something that was dead and bring it back to life!” - Freely
“It’s a weird sentence to have to say out loud, but God puke smells kinda nice!” - Freely
“You’re my favorite thing I’ve ever stolen!” - Sofieus
“Fate is a strange thing. Thank you. It’s been a long time since anyone has shown me any kindness. I hope fate brings us together again.” “I hope you’re wrong.” - Veltara and Orkira
“Avren, if you want me to continue to stand here and let this happen, then we will have this conversation LATER.” - Orkira
The group take a long rest as Avahara swims them all towards the marid spawning grounds. They get some more details about the Gamordia Terror of the Rift; while reasonable they are a being of few words, and will be swayed by what the marid’s request. They can both swim and fly, which makes Avahara nervous as she doesn’t like prey creatures flying above her, and they resemble a massive pelican covered in jewels. Hank, their marid friend, arrives and Alyndra casts tongues on him so he can be a translator. He warns that the battle between them and the Port Argent ship has started, and the marid council has approved summoning the Terror of the Rift. Alyndra explains that this is an ongoing cycle based on accidents and misunderstandings, and Hank suggests they go straight to the Conduit Surana, the marid chosen to summon Gamordia.
Two teams are formed to try and reason with both the parties before the war gets out of hand. Penelope, Freely and Alyndra will go with Hank and Avahara to try and stop the summoning of Gamordia. Meanwhile Avren, Sofieus and Orkira will take D.A.V.E. and heads to Falva’s Breath to talk with the folks from Port Argent. That way there is someone one both teams who can cast sending so they can keep in touch. Alyndra casts water breathing on everyone, Orkira death wards Freely, and the teams head off.
Avahara distracts the marids while Hank leads the halflings and Alyndra through the winding, dangerous passage to find the Conduit Surana. She’s surrounded by a type of force energy, causing vibrations across all the room and making it almost impossible to speak. Freely uses charm person to be seen as a friendly acquaintance, and between using message and help from Hank they are able to convince her to stop the ritual and listen to their arguments. Alyndra explains what they have discovered, and her persuasive words convince the Conduit to wait for the land walkers to stop their attack.
The submersible arrives under Falva’s Breath in the middle of a heated battle between the ship and the marids. Orkira, Sofieus and Avren climb up the chain to the anchor to get into the bottom of the boat. As the cleric stops to heal someone who’s been injured, Avren hides Sofieus’ cannon near the gunpowder, and the three head to the captains quarters where Chucksana is in charge. Avren explains what they have discovered, and while Chucksana is doubtful and angry over her crew finding Sofieus’ canon pointed at the gunpowder, she does order a brief ceasefire. As Orkira casts sending to fill in Alyndra on their status, Avren casts major image to make a replica of Falva’s Breath to distract the marid’s attacks.
Quotes:
“We’ve been through stuff collectively, and we’ve survived cause we take care of each other.” - Freely
"Dying is just the next part of what you do in the universe. And it kinda sucks when you can’t be with your friends anymore, but you’re gonna go do other things.” - Orkira
“Jiggleology?” “That’s when you study Gelatinous Cubes.” - Orkira and Alyndra
“Good luck, don’t die, but if you do die...don’t come back to life!” - Avahara
“People have already died.” “Why must more? Why must your children? And your children’s children?” “I would like my children to be painters and dancers, not warriors.” - Surana and Alyndra

Summary:

Summary:

Summary:

Silver and Steel Ep 29 Wicker Man Woes
Watch the full episode on YouTube! https://youtu.be/QAY7HPrqdGo
Summary:

Summary:

Listen to the show as a podcast: https://silverandsteel.podbean.com
Summary:

Summary:
Quotes:
“Listen Freely, you’ve got prestidigitation! We’ll just do it the dirty way and then you’ll just have to clean us afterwards.”

“Could it be a bedazzled bubble bobble?!” - Alyndra
“If Daisy is in communication with God/Patron/Person/fun nice lady person, we ask Daisy to ask the nice lady person to come talk to us! I mean I’m assuming that not everyone’s God shows up in a big fiery explosion.” - Orkira
“It’s about trying to figure out what the right thing to do is, at the time. And that’s not always easy but the important thing is that you try.” - Orkira

Summary:

“Explode big or go home!” - Alyndra
“I don’t really like inverted steering through, but I will get used to this!” - Sofieus

Summary:

Summary:
Quotes:
“Thank you Jen and Hope, you made my dreams come true of ramps and coffee.” - Lauren

“How is there lava on the back of a turtle?!”
“I know, it’s fire, you love fire, we get it, we know we know, that’s your thing. We got it.”
“Well and you’ve got the undead thing, I mean everyone’s got their thing.”
“That’s true.” - Orkira and Avren
“Oh yea! That’s true! Nature, oh you should see me when I get mad! Nature has the fury of a thousand storms! And also the will to cure and heal. But also the need to burn things down because that is the true reset! But also to grow things in its place.” - Turtle Goddess

Summary:
Quotes:

“If you’re all doing heresy I will pull this turtle shell around!” - Ahavara
“It's a violent light?”
“All light is violent if you get it bright enough!” - Freely and Avren
“Sometimes the best way to solve a problem is to chew on it.”
“Well she’s not wrong.” - Ahavara and Penelope
“Yeah, one problem at a time! Doll, world, big worm.”
“Well sometimes one little girl is the world. But ok, let’s do it.”
“I put the doll first! I put the little girl first!” - Orkira and Freely
“Sofieus I love you but you build guns like you cook!” - Freely

Summary:
I hope fate brings us together again.”
“I hope you’re wrong.” - Veltara and Orkira
“Avren, if you want me to continue to stand here and let this happen, then we will have this conversation LATER.” - Orkira

Listen to the show as a podcast: https://silverandsteel.podbean.com
