After blacking out from their fall from the portal, the Heroes wake up buried in the snow during a fearsome blizzard. No one is sure where they are, and the weather is so terrible that exploring is unsafe, so Alyndra casts Private Sanctum to have a safe and temperate place to wait out the storm. Orkira sends Harold a message hoping to find out if he is safe while Alyndra uses her arcane eye to scout out a nearby castle. She approaches an imposing orc with only one eye in the center of their face, wearing black armor, who notices the arcane eye and calls out to Alyndra by name. They say they’re looking for her, and will see her soon, before the magic is dissolved. While Keen mentions Gruumsh, no one is sure if this is the same being.
Penelope is fascinated by the keep on the hill, realizing that this belongs to her after an experience she had drawing from the Deck of Many Things while helping Avren recently. Something slaps the window and writes “no” on the glass, and when Alyndra peers into the Ethereal Plane she can see a younger version of herself staring back. The Ethereal Alyndra tells her to leave, that she forgot something, that she was an innocent child who had to be hidden. Alyndra demands answers, but the Ethereal version claims that she cannot know because someone will find her, and so someone had to lie.
Despite the magical nature of the private sanctum, strange things start to happen as the house continues to creak and groan. A wound opens up on the ceiling that starts pouring blood, while a hallway appears with the echo of a crying baby. Down the endless hallway Penelope finds a tile bathroom with a tiny tent, and opening the flap she finds an 8 year old Alyndra with jet black eyes who suddenly vanishes! Briv climbs up to try and heal the wound, but noticing it’s a type portal he climbs inside. He can hear a ferocious battle, including orcish and elvish voices, and a voice claims to be Briv’s God before the paladin falls out. The sounds of battle fill the house, and out of the ground leaves and vines grow and form a crying baby.
Orkira is unable to shake Alyndra out of her focus and so casts lesser restoration, which brings the wizard back to reality and causes most of the strange events to suddenly stop or vanish. The only thing left is the blood, which starts to dissipate or gather in beads. Alyndra explains that she’s named after the dryad who was created when the blood of elves and trees mixed during war. There is one bead of blood left hovering in the air, emanating intense cold, and to find out who it belongs to Orkira casts scrying only to find it came from Keen! The house begins to collapse, and everyone flees back out into the blizzard.
The group decide it’s worth questioning the figure Alyndra saw and investigating the castle to try to get answers, as Orkira can always teleport them back to Hupperdook. They cannot find the figure, but approaching the castle they find it’s partial stable with a light on in one of the towers. Inside the main room is a lavish feast surrounded by exquisite murals depicting all the Heroes from various moments in history, but also one of Keen and Briv together facing off against Gruumsh. At the top of the tower are two blurry figures of Avren and Sofieus holding a baby Alyndra. They hand the baby to Penelope and ask to keep her safe for a little while, to protect her from Gruumsh, before vanishing and leaving the child behind. An adjacent room holds an ancient Penelope Half-Pint, who grins at them and ask if they will be her friend.
