Seriously, in the 2014 rules they can cast some spells.
Sorry I missed this comment! My excuse is that this is quite the necro comment :)
I'll admit that I didn't consider monk. However, I looked at their list and I don't see anything that meets the original criteria. They either require concentration or a decent spellcasting stat (WIS, right?) for saves and/or attack rolls. Thus none of them really jumped out at me. I mean situationally silence is always good and I wouldn't say no to pass without trace, but that is out combat and I sort of focused on the combat spells in order to get people thinking outside the box.
Due to the necro part to I will straight up say TLDR.
was it mentioned a barbarian multiclassed with a fathom warlock? You bonus action can make tentacles that you can attack with as a bonus action while raging still. And spells and everything can provide out of combat uses. Then you know. You obviously rage when in melee range.
the tentacles also slow things down so harder to run away from the barbarian.

I did mention that Warlock is a great barbarian multiclass. However, this is a spell guide so I didn't mention any non-spell rational why.
I'm sad you have not read the guide. I wrote it for exactly this reason, people who chose to multiclass a Barbarian with a spell casting class and assume that spells are only "out-of-combat" uses. I mean with any warlock you have Armor of Agathys at the very least which I would cast often.

Hex too is great, to hex things' strength, where you as a barbarian have your rage strength advantages.

I appreciate your enthusiasm to comment, however, Hex is mentioned in the guide.
A little sad the guide never makes mention of Barbarians deciding to cast darkness on an object- their great axe/maul/whatever. And just running in with their devil sight, and terrorizing through the darkness recklessly because why not in darkness. Who needs rage in that situation.
Nothing stopping you from playing that. However, the reasons for the spell evaluations are in the article and I find this very niche. Nothing wrong with this combination unless you are sacrificing something else to get it.
You can do that technique with any martial, but since it negates rage and even arguably reckless attack... wouldn't it be be better on a fighter or a pure hexblade? If that is the technique you want to play, then being a barbarian doesn't help you out much.
The cantrip BladeWard is very attractive because it yields an out-of-rage protection of expected +2AC. This makes a Barbarian / Warlock even more interesting. I would cast it after a short rest & combat, recast and keep concentrating on it. This way we can enter combat quite protected and decide even during combat to rage which ends the spell. I rate it very high.
Familiar from PactOfTheChain Warlock invocation might rated higher. You get advantage on initiative rolls if you use Alert to swap initiative with your familiar. Furthermore, Imp or Sprite are a awesome as Owl because of the invisibility they can do help to grant advantage but are attacked with disadvantage. You use a BonusAction to attack with the Sprite's bow and the target is charmed on a hit; no saving throw.
FalseLife from FiendishVigor Warlock invocation now grants 12 TempHP for sure (see below).
DivineFavor gives +1d4 dmg per attack but has a very short duration unfortunately and requires a Paladin dip which not very attractive in 2024 because DivineSmite is a spell. Not my first choice but does it make sense to add it with a very low rating?
I think Cure Wounds is another spell that could work on a Barbarian. Its situational, but if you drop to 0 HP (ending your Rage) but are brought back by a party member, you could use your Action to cast Cure Wounds on yourself and then use your Bonus Action to Rage (effectively doubling the HP you just got). This one is still risky though, since youre not using your action to attack you have to hope you aggro some hits from the enemies after standing back up so you dont lose your rage immediately. Granted, if you have a party member that can heal you may be better off just asking them to focus on healing you for a couple of rounds
Hi Kaboom,
I would dip Warlock 2024, and get 12TempHP from FiendishVigor before combat. No need to end rage.
I considered a barb cleric some time ago because of that spell but gave up on it.
Instead of ending your rage, you could keep on raging, drink a potion as an action, extend your rage (2014: get hit, 2024: use BonusAction) and hence, keep on raging. If you want to help somebody, move to the guy, use a Healer‘sKit as an action to stabilize somebody OR administer a potion as an action. No need to end rage.
I've multiclassed a bard with a barb (mostly because it's a bardarian) it was great

Hex is concentration.
Parties can have.... more than 1 barbarian.... and more than 1 person able to cast hex
edit: and non-combat again. But hexing one before challenging them to a strength contest and letting them go first- viable.
