Hi all. I am starting a new campaign really soon, and I was hoping to play a very high damage class/subclass with a greatsword. Any suggestions? Thanks!
You want a fighter or paladin. Heavy armor, martial weapons, and the potential for a ton of damage. Take the Great Weapon Fighting fighting style in either case. If you're a fighter, you probably want the Battle Master archetype.
If you don't want armor, go for a barbarian instead.

So barbarians generally out damage fighters? I have been trying to make comparisons lately, and I just felt fighters seemed better with their 4 attacks per action at level 20. And yes, i am willing to ignore armor for the sake of dps.
Fighters/paladins have heavy armor, a d10 Hit Die, and either Second Wind or true healing. Barbarians have Con-based Unarmored Defense, a d12 Hit Die, and some resistances (resistances only while raging, but that's not really all that much of a limitation). Personally, I'd say they're about even on durability.
For damage:
Fighters have GWF at 1st level (reliability), Action Surge at 2nd (nova), potentially a Battle Master's maneuvers at 3rd (nova), their second ASI at 6th (slight advantage), Extra Attack 2 at 11th (damage), a second Action Surge at 17th (nova), Extra Attack 3 at 20th (damage), and a ridiculous number of ASIs/feats along the way.
Paladins have GWF at 2nd (reliability), spellcasting at 2nd (damage), Divine Smite at 2nd (nova), Improved Divine Smite at 11th (damage), and a bunch of spell slots to smite people with. Oh, and their 17th-level subclass features are generally pretty strong, if limited-use.
Barbarians have Rage at 1st (damage), Reckless Attack at 2nd (reliability), and Primal Champion at 20th (damage and reliability) and the rest of their combat-related features just make Rage better.
