A Tiefling of any class would nail down that connection out of the gate.
An Aberrant Mind Sorcerer could be reflavored to have Abyssal origins.
The obvious Warlock pact for the Abyss would be the Fiend pact, but you could also go with the Hexblade which can be similarly flavored.
You could go against type, and have your character working through a redemption arc, forming a pact with a non-Abyssal entity to achieve freedom beyond the powers that seek to command you. That would give your DM a lot to work with, since the stronger your character gets, the more the fiends want your character back. A potent build you could use would be to start with a Tiefling Hexblade Warlock to represent your background and past deals, and then multiclass into Paladin to represent your character's dedication to breaking off from the person your character used to be.
Cthulu is spelled with a C. I spent a decent amount of time just staring at "Kthulu" trying to figure out why it was wrong.
If you want an Eldritch Horror, that's exactly what the Great Old One is.

Look at what you've done. You spoiled it. You have nobody to blame but yourself. Go sit and think about your actions.

I am making a character for a campaign and I want the character to be based off of the abyss. Does anyone have any tips or ideas?
I think I might go with warlock, but what subclass?
