Hey there. I was looking to see if this was a viable option.
I started out as a V. Human Blood Hunter with heavy armor feat. My main focus always was on Str and Con, not utilizing the saves in the class cause of low Int. Currently lvl 2 and was thinking of taking a 2 lvl dip in paladin for smites. I have the stats to do the MC, but just enough. Would it be strong to take the dip just for the healing and smites?
I think this could only really work if you take Order of the Profane Soul as your subclass... Paladin tends to be a really good multiclass dip primarily for classes that also have spellcasting. If you're going into this wanting to dip into Paladin for smites, if you don't have a second source of spell slots you're only going to get two level 1 slots from a 2 level Paladin dip. Similarly, the Lay on Hands feature is dependent on your Paladin level, so it won't be a reliable source of healing long term.
Yeah, you're not really going to see a massive boost in performance from a pair of 1st level smites. Really Paladin is more a class you dip from than one you dip into.
So if I'd switch to Paladin main would to work better with combining the two classes or is it not a good fit in general? I'd really love to combine the two. But I'm not seeing a way that it could work.
I would get to level 3 as a Blood hunter. I'm a big fan of the Ghost Hunter. Their 3rd level right turns damage into Radiant, sheds light 20 feet on their weapon, and allows two hemocraft dice to be rolled against undead. Basically a 2 d 4 damage bonus two undead and it stakes with Smite. 1 d4 against other non-undead foes but still stacks with smite.

In general neither one offers much for a quick dip, and by the time you get to level 3 you’re looking at a significant investment of levels. I’d just pick a class and stick to it.
I’m currently three levels in Blood Hunter (lycanthrope) and 1 in paladin, and intend to take the rest of my levels in paladin. It’s nowhere near an optimized build, but 3 levels in blood Hunter gives you the main features of the class (which I’m flavoring as a curse) and will now go oath of vengeance the rest of the way.

So straight Bloodhunter would help me more? Cause then my problem is solved. Guess I can flavour being a man of God.
Pretty much, yeah. Ultimately though, it’s up to you.

I was thinking something similar. But if you just take that many lvls in Blood Hunter, you don't gain higher dice for Crimson Rites.
I'm really torn in playing a bit more optimized or going for what narratively would make sense.
Was hoping to create to the ultimate undead hunter with ghostslayer and paladin combined but it's just not strong.
