So... I play a gnome bard in my gaming group, and the character has bonded inseparably with a dog that he also uses as a mount. I'm very interested in getting some kind of teleporting spell, but I know that spells such as Thunder Step and Dimension Door only allow you to take a creature that is the same size as you through it. With the dog being medium-sized the prospect of having to leave him behind in such a way did not sit well with me.
Thus far the only kinds of spells I know of that could help with this dilemma are Arcane Gate, Scatter, and Teleport, but all of those are much at much higher spell-levels so I'd probably only be able to cast them once or maybe twice at a given point in time. I'm curious if there are others that I might have missed that could serve the same function (mainly allowing to take another with me regardless of size-category).
Every spellcaster has this challenge with their mounts if I’m not mistaken, not just small ones. I’d check with your DM and either house rule that those spells will let any spellcaster bring their mount with them or cast either jump or expeditious retreat on your mount instead.
