Backstory: Created by a Wizard long ago to guard a potential planar incursion, the Watcher stands eternally stalwart until *something happens (up to DM)*
Background: Hermit
Race: Warforged
Class: This is where I am stumped
I can’t choose between Oath of the Watchers Paladin, Horizon Walker Ranger, or some variety of a Multiclass between the two.
Really any of those could work. Heck, a champion fighter or evocation wizard could work. Specialized skills are nice, but really It’s all about how you play them. But with those options, they’ll have pretty different playstyles. Which one appeals to you more is the real question to answer.
Wizard: Ok, here are your orders - you're to stand here and wait until the blood war spills over into our prime material plane, then ... stop it. Here.
Warforged: ++ YES MASTER. QUERY: WHAT IS A BLOOD WAR? ++
Wizard: Um, you'll know it when you see it. Ok? Ok. Good. Cheerio, old chap.
Warforged: ++ YES MASTER. KNOW IT WHEN I SEE IT. CHEE-REE-O. ++
A thousand years pass. Suddenly, something tumbles through a portal - let's say it's an unfortunate dretch. Warforged cleaves it cleanly in twain, then wonders:
Warforged: ++ IS THAT ... IS THAT A BLOOD WAR? I ... I WILL HAVE TO FIND MASTER AND ASK! ++
Walks off to find a wizard nine hundred years in the ground. Behind him, unseen, the portal reopens, and blood war scouts pour through.
I vote paladin. Works well for this. Sort of thick-headed lawfulness, sticking with the job long ... forever.

Blanket disclaimer: I only ever state opinion. But I can sound terribly dogmatic - so if you feel I'm trying to tell you what to think, I'm really not, I swear. I'm telling you what I think, that's all.
So, I have an idea for a War forged Character.

A champion warrior or an evocation wizard could be useful. free games

The Gate Warden background from Planescape sounds like it might fit this character.
I’d probably go with the Oath of the Watchers Paladin too.
Awesome, looks like the consensus is Oath of the Watcher’s Paladin. Thank you!
