I currently am running a female Drow Rogue. The idea is that she works as an assassin for hire. She is a Charismatic Lady that lures her targets in close to her with her charm and then kills them at the most opportune moment. She's only level 2 right now with two levels of Rogue, so things are not completely set in stone with this just yet. Here is what I would like to happen. When I get level 3, taking the assassin archetype. Then at 4, multiclassing into a Warlock. When I hit Warlock 3, I want to take Pact of the Chain. I like the idea of having a familiar that I can have sneaking around invisible, probably an imp, doing stuff while I'm maybe having a conversation with someone, slipping some poison in their goblet or loosening a rope on a chandelier right as the mark walks under it. So, I would like some tips on this build.
1. How many levels should I take in each class?
2. Should I go for a different patron and/or pact?
3. I'm pretty set on the assassin archetype, but I haven't chosen one yet, so suggests including changing that are welcome as well.

When will people learn? Any one who gets suckered in by a charming drow lady deserves what they get! Except for drow males of course : they know what is likely coming, but are genetically pre-disposed to a certain fatalism (and blind optimism) about such things....
If you are planning on a career as an assassin, then taking the assassin archetype certainly seems the way to go, but at some point people are going to notice the trail of dead people behind you, so changing your modus operandi also makes sense. Personally I am against the idea of choosing to become a warlock and gaining a Patron - this should be an organic event, probably brought on by desperate circumstances.
When will people learn? Any one who gets suckered in by a charming otherworldy patron deserves what they get! Except for the truly desperate of course : they know what is likely coming, but are facing the end of all their hopes and dreams and are pre-disposed to a certain fatalism (and blind optimism) about such things....
When will people learn? Some people never will.

The thing i'd say is: if the familiar is the thing that's drawing you to Warlock, there are easier ways to get it than 3 levels of Warlock (though none of them will let you have the alternate familiar forms you get from Pact of the Chain). You could take Magic Initiate or Ritual Caster as a feat and select Find Familiar as one of the spells, or you could go Arcane Trickster and choose Find Familiar as one of the spells you learn from that.
For that matter, the things you describe your familiar doing seem like they could also be accomplished by Mage Hand Legerdemain. Arcane Trickster really might be the way to go if you're wanting to be a Rogue with some spellcasting ability.
