I have this character fantasy of an artificer that essentially "overloads" their tech for extra power (rage), but I have no idea how to build it or its viability. I am by no means a min/maxer, but with rage preventing spell casting, I'm kind of at a loss on how to build this.
Artificer subclass I would imagine either Armorer or Battle Smith, but I have no idea what Barbarian subclass would work or how far of a dip into the class it would take.
Also, if anyone can think of a better class than Barb to help fulfill this character fantasy, I'd be willing to look into that too
Defensively, bladesinger wizard could work as a supercharged armor power. Then their "extra attack with one being a cantrip" could play into that further

For that specific fantasy, I would go pure Artificer but take the Metamagic Initiate Feat and Empower Spell, this would let you have 2 SP to "overload" with, alternatively dip into Wild Magic Sorcerer, that would give you a couple of "overload" options.....
.... Actually thinking about it more, I think 3-Artificer (Armourer) + 3-Sorcerer (Wild Magic) would be what you want here. You're a caster level 5 so have 3rd level slots, you've got 3 SPs and Metamagic, Wild Magic Surges, Heavy Armour with a couple of infusions... Definitely not optimal but I think at least functional.
The trick to playing a spellcaster/Barbarian hybrid is figuring out which class gives you things you can do with your spell slots that aren't spellcasting. That's a big reason why Paladin/Barbarian is one of the only semi-common spellcaster/barbarian multiclass combo you see, since Paladins can just turn spell slots into smites.
With that in mind, your best bet would be Artillerist. Their Eldritch Cannon gives you something you can spend spell slots on even if you're raging, and they're controlled via bonus action, so as long as you don't play a Barbarian subclass that uses a bonus action turn-after-turn, you'll still get a lot of use out of it. I think Zealot might be your best bet... it's a nice, straightforward subclass that just makes you better at dealing damage.
That all said, you'll have an easier time utilizing some of the other classes suggested already. I think that Bladesinger might be the easiest one to grab. You only need 2 levels of Wizard to get your subclass, and your number of uses of Bladesong is based on your Proficiency Bonus, so you'll still get more uses of the feature even while you focus your leveling up on Artificer.
