I’ve been dabbling for a long time here and would like to make my first set of purchases. These revolve around the Changeling race i would like to use with the faceless background, as well as some other sets of spells and feats.
My two primary concerns are:
1. I’ve heard Changelings are often banned at tables.
and, of course
2. One D&D is coming out soon, so my purchases will be outdated.
Obviously, i don’t want to waste my money, so any information or experience you all would be willing to share on the matter would be greatly appreciated.
The current version of the Changeling is in Monsters Of The Multiverse. The races in that book were revised with the 2024 design philosophy in mind, so I wouldn't worry about it being "outdated" any time soon. As for whether they'll be allowed at your table, that's an issue for every race to some degree but yes, Changelings are one of the more "exotic" races and are probably disallowed more often than the more traditional choices.
If you're worried about it being banned at some tables, you might as well wait until you have a game before buying. (Also, the DM might already have it, so you don't need to buy it yourself.)
If you want it for playing around with character ideas, then it doesn't matter if it may be banned. Or you could homebrew it.
