Basically I chose dwarf as species with farmer as the background to double up on toughness.
At level 1 I chose the heavy armor option. At level 4, warcaster boosting wisdom. Level 8, asi to wisdom 20. At 12 I chose Shield master to boost strength and give those benefits, at 16 durable to boost con and gain that benefit, and then the epic boon where you get Last Stand.
Items in the build are Dwarven plate armor, ring of rejuvination, and a few other goodies.
I think that I might want to multiclass the build as an alternative. I am curious what might be a more optimized way to go about it? I love playing a Light Domain cleric to get fireball at level 5 so it can’t multi before then. But beyond that I am open to suggestions.
For instance: Ranger Multiclass Monk Multiclass Druid Multiclass Barbarian Multiclass?
I could go cleric 17, x 3 and still get 9th level spells. I am curious what others would do? Anything to make a cleric more effective, more tanky, more optimized?
You will not make your cleric more effective by multiclassing. You can only trade strengths in one area of strengths in another. You don't meet the DEX requirement for either Ranger or Monk, so your option are: Druid, Barbarian, or Fighter. Druid will get you some out-of-combat utility with Wildshape and Wild Familiar but will not benefit your in-combat abilities, sure Starry Druid can get you +1d8+5 extra damage per round, but that's borderline insignificant at level 20, Chalice + Mass Cure Wounds is likely more effective. Barbarian is completely wasted levels since you can't cast spells while raging so you would never ever want to rage. Fighter (Eldritch Knight) can get you a little bit more power on your weapon attacks, and a little bit more survivability for yourself. But if you are a level 20 cleric and you're making weapon attacks, something has gone very wrong.

My build concept for a LD Cleric is basically: “Iron Cannon that hands out band-aids.”
If I am starting at 20 I might go pure class cleric.
But if I am starting in Tier 1 or 2 I might enjoy having the extra features especially in a campaign that ends before level 20.
Without changing starting stats, I am starting to think druid is the strongest choice because I get the spell slots still and LD loves upcasting fireball anyway.
In the other thread I discussed Sea Druids wrath of the sea. But I am also intrigued by Circle of the Land’s ability to switch out spell lists at dawn. With a 3 level dip this would be just the 2nd level spells but they also include cantrips so it might be fun to have different buildouts.
I think barbarian is the wrong choice flat out…. with the possible exception of the Path of Wild Heart. PoWH has spell like effects when they rage and this can be a fun option when you run out of spell slots.
Fighter 3 gets me action surge and a subclass: that alone might make me pick fighter as a capstone at the end. Getting a couple wizard cantrips and level 1s is not earth shattering really. I would probably look through Battle Master maneuvers to see what in there might benefit a cleric blaster build. I’m also wondering to myself if something like Arcane Archer would be a good fit. Yes I am a strength build. But with True Strike I could use Wisdom with a ranged weapon, get the weapon spec bonus, use an arcane archer effect, and possibly also divine strikes. The piercing arrow effect would make it a horizontal line and (possibly) apply all of the damage bonuses I have to everyone in the line not just one target. I need to explore whether or not this would actually work…. lol
Thank you for replying. I have more to think about now….

In Baldur’s Gate 3 I played a Light Domain Cleric and it was a blast. I have a Level 20 pure cleric build for use in a campaign.
Starting stats are peak wisdom (15+2), then strength (15) and con (14), with dex and int at 10 I believe and cha at 8.

Give me some ideas even if they are crazy! LOL
