I’m guessing your aim is to get a pile of attacks on a target with hunters mark on it. The big problem is going to be action economy. First round, you use your bonus action to put hunters mark on the target, then make your normal attacks, which is to say, no flurry of blows. Then maybe the target survives until the next round, and you get to pull off your trick. But if they don’t, you’re using your BA to move the hunters mark around. And factor in the other monk powers like step of the wind and patient defense competing for that bonus action. You’ll really undercut the monk’s mobility. Against a solo boss, it might work well. Against multiple weaker enemies, probably not so much.
the other thing is scimtars are monk weapons, so mastery with those should be good, right?
Yeah, in 5.5e they are. You're looking to get the Nick weapon mastery property so you can make another attack with them without using your bonus action? That should work, though Xalthu makes a good point about the action economy issues with Hunter's Mark.
If you're just looking for the weapon mastery, there's a feat for that. At that point, you can use daggers if you want. Same damage for a monk, still get the nick property, and you can throw them.
And three attacks with d 12's isn't really that exciting at high levels. If you had a d8 weapon, you're average damage is 4.5 (plus whatever bonuses and such) at a d12, that goes up to 6.5. So, 2 points of damage on average per attack. It's better than nothing, but it's very much in line with what high level characters can do.
Keep in mind that as a Monk you'll be taking a fair number of hits; makes holding Concentration iffy. Personally I'd just take the Weapon Mastery feat for the Nick gimmick.
I also would like defensive dulist which will raise my AC considerably, plus cure wounds from ranger and all of the defensive stuff of monk should make me a bit of a menace in battle, right? plus a human criminal with tough and alert gives me high inititave to set it up, and a lot of hp to continue. the real thing I need help with is which 2024 subclass to be and what the balance is.
Again, you have action economy. Defensive duelist will compete with deflect attacks. Certainly it’s better to not get hit than to reduce the damage. But if you are dealing with enemies with multiple attacks, you use DD then the next attack hits you anyway, you won’t have a reaction for deflect attacks. So you can do one or the other, but not both.
Cure wounds is for after a fight, typically. Though it is much better in 24, you are still using your action. On the up side, in 24, you can still bonus action flurry without attacking first, which is nice. But if you need healing, better to BA disengage and get away from the situation. Or spend a focus point to BA disengage and dash.
Wow! I’m surprised everyone would give up a feat & half an asi or a full asi for a weapon mastery. Multiclassing just gives so much more in exchange for a capstone that while good you’ll probably never reach by getting to level 20.
Everyone’s different, I guess. Me personally, I’d be too focused on pumping up dexterity and wisdom to 20 (or at least as high as possible) to give up a feat/asi.
I prefer to avoid dips for something you can get from a feat, both for aesthetic reasons and because I place high value on progressing class levels. Besides, it doesn’t take much stat arrangement to make a +1 still bump your ability mod as you level.
also, I'm considering going 2-4 ranger for mabye 2 epic boons, a subclass, and a fighting style. just wondering if dropping the level 17 feature and pacient defence is worth it as we are going to 20.
How are you going to be playing the character? Is this for a level 20 One-shot or are you playing from level 1? If you are dipping Ranger you might as well go 3-4 levels to pick up a Fighting Style, Weapon Mastery, and a subclass (Hunter for Collossus Slayer) in addition to Hunter's Mark. If you are playing from level 1, I'd go straight Ranger to level 5 for extra attack, and then swap to Monk.
For Monk subclass, you probably want Open Hand if you are trying to optimize damage as to optimize damage you'll want to spend all your Focus Points on Flurry of Blows, so you might as well get a much out of FoB as possible.
First, I wouldn’t count on hitting level 20 until you are about 9/10 of the way past level 19. Most campaigns fall apart long before that.
Second, if you are going to 20, that’s all the more reason to single class monk. The capstone is just too good to give up for a couple gimmicks you get from ranger that won’t come up often.
If you are playing a monk starting at level1 or close, then dip you feel that pain in mid levels. I was but a 6 level monk with multiclass and basically died because I could not access that 7 level evasion. I have since regretted doing anything less then full monk.

1 level ranger, the rest monk. dual wield scimtars and hunters mark to do a ton of damage. help with refining and seeing if this would work.

I mean, 3 strikes of d12's are good at high levels.

1-20. open hand is good because you are alwaysed dashed as well. that said, mercy is also great for bonus damage and healing.
