I’m wanting to play a Paladin 1/Celestial Warlock X build. Specifically, I intend to at least play to level 7 where I can add my proficiency bonus to light and fire spell damage. This would include divine favor. Disadvantage to a stat aside, hex would become weaker than divine favor’s guaranteed damage boost. However, that is not my question.
I start off with two level 1 spell slots as a paladin. Then I get a third that upgrades to a second level spell and so on thanks to warlock. Should I be using both of my 1st level Paladin spell slots on hex and/or divine favor? I’m not sure how much is too much. Heck, if I don’t need divine favor I could always get another smite to upcast instead, as I only have two paladin spells I can choose from.
how would you plan on getting divine favor if you chose it? RAW you cant pick paladin as your class for magic initiate. only other way i can think of is multiclassing 1 level into war cleric, but thats kind of a waste imo, especially if youre gonna dip into wizard in the future anyway
That one level in Paladin should give him the option to pick paladin spells. Although something that takes two turns to set up ain’t the best, it’s probably better to pick one and go with it, probably Divine Favour. It’s a non-concentration spell which opens up quite a few strong options that Hex wouldn’t allow.

Their post describes taking a level of Paladin for this exact purpose.
Keep in mind that unlike in 5e, Paladins in 5.5e get spellcasting right from level 1.

unless you have a really long boss fight divine favor wins out. add your cha to one hit per turn and 1d4 to all of them? worth it. plus you can do combos of hunger of hadar and devils sight.

Hello there! I have too many ideas. I am very impatient and I love splatoon and obssess over any minmax.I'm sorry if anything I post is unkind or offends you.I'm well aware that I am very weird and I like it that way! call me adam or atomic. check out the never ending arena for good combat! my mottos:
goal number 1: be funny in all ways possible
goal number 2: be nice in all ways possible
goal number 3: have as much fun in life as you can!
I find hex to be kind of underwhelming. The extra d6 is ok at the start, but after a few levels, it’s not really adding much. And it uses concentration, which means it will not work with some smite spells, which are also concentration. Not to mention its competing with divine smite for your bonus action.

yeah. the only thing that makes it worth it is GOO, disadvantage on a save of your choice is rediculous.

I thought it had that ability regardless of subclass, or is there an ability that makes it more powerful/effective as a GOO Warlock?

it is ability checks regardless, saves are different and GOO only. the only thing that comes to mind is EB+AB, but spirit shroud is better.

The one big thing in Hex's favor is its duration: you have a good chance of using it in multiple combats with a single casting. That being said, I'd still easily pick Divine Favor instead of it and use my concentration for something like Bless.

yeah, but losing concentration with that is brutal.

The other advantage of Hex is that it applies to all forms of attacks, while Divine Favor only applies to attacks with weapons.
This may not be much of an issue if you're primarily a Paladin and you're making lots of weapon attacks all day long, but if you're relying on your Warlock cantrips to deal damage, Divine Favor will not be helpful.

or they could be using pact of the blade.

Interesting. That din’t go the way I thought it would. Anyway, thank you all as always. I guess I’ll focus on Divine Favor and keep Hex as a backup.
