I'm playing a lvl 4 shadow sorcerer. He is a Vecna cultist whose sect was destroyed. Going through "out of the abyss". After a vision from Vecna in game, I'm considering multi-classing with a cleric knowledge domain. My character is very much about gathering information and hoarding it for his own gain and Vecnas.
If you have the charisma and wisdom to allow multiclassing it sounds like an option, a mostly flavour and roleplay opportunity option. (considering the reduction in spell casting options for the sorcerer and slowing their progression to hound of ill omen in exchange for proficiencies in languages and two knowledge based skills) If the game style allows you to put that to use then that can be a nice addition for you.
Alternatively you could consider -
Ritual caster feat , cleric or wizard and eventually access divination rituals to root out secrets without multiclassing.
If intelligence allows, multiclass two levels as mage, diviner, access to first level rituals and of course portent 'receiving messages from Vecna'.
Enjoy yourself whatever you do and always remember, moon druids never sleep.
I have taken the ritual caster wizard feat and the war caster as a varient human. I rolled really well so I have a 17 CHA, 16 CON, 14 WIS, 14 INT, 14 DEX, and 11 STR. I'm definitely going more towards roleplay for this but it does open up alot of spell options since I'm the only consistent magic user in my group.
It's been kind of fun so far being able to read minds and the only one who can identify magic items. My dm likes to use alot of cursed items 😈
A player in my campaign was a Sorcerer and multiclassed into Cleric for RP reasons, though had a great 16CHA and 16WIS at the time of the multiclass. He has really enjoyed the mix of stuff, and using metamagic options on Cleric spells has been pretty fantastic.
Vecna is generally considered more of a warlock patron than a deity, and Warlocks are CHA casters too. You might consider how that would mesh with your character concept.
