Hey guys, it may be true that the topic is kind of weird to understand but heres the deal.
In our DnD group suddenly happened something kind of bad for my character. I was a lvl 3 warrior and lvl 2 wizard.
Now i cant use my spellcasting lvls anymore cause i got a change of fate, means, i got resistance against all kind of magics, no spell can harm nor help me. So Magic got kind of useless to me. Cause with the term of resistance against magic, came also the part that im not able to cast anything too. Its like that im a Void for magical terms. It just absorbs anything comming from or against me. So what to do now? Is there a cure? Doupt so.
Cause of this i thought, ok if no magic is able to harm me, and i already got some warrior lvls, i would be a really decent tank, running in the fronts, smacking ppl, blocking attacks and wont even be tickled by enemy magic. Now the big Questions. The prestige classes. I tried to look some up, but its kinda hard to search for "primary" tanks. If anyone would knew some and share thos with me i gladly appreciate those. I got no bounds of version, cause the DM is always open to reset it for the version we play, taking some chanings so it can fit. Theres even no problems in taking any homebrew classes. The biggest deal now would be. There can be no condition bout spellcasting since its off limits. Oh and maybe to say so, at the times being, the character is/was pure neutral.
I think for most people on this forum your question makes no sense, in fact I'm not 100% sure what system your using. I'm assuming that your playing either 3rd edition, 3.5, or Pathfinder because only one Unearthed Arcana Prestige Class exists in 5th edition, and most people don't use it. I'm also hope you aren't actually using the NPC Class "Warrior". Here are a couple of Prestige Classes that might be good options for being tanky without being spelly:
Dwarven Defender is probably the tankiest, but you have to be a Dwarf obviously. (Exotic) Weapon Master is an alright option, but it doesn't have any tanky abilities. Purple Dragon Knight could work well, but you have to not be chaotic or evil aligned. Thayan Knight, easy to get as long as you have Weapon Focus (Longsword) and are Human.
It would be easier to figure out what's the best fit, if I knew what system you were using and how your character was built (Feats, Skill Points, Race, ect).
Whats a prestige class? I never played any 3rd edition, what I read of it I didn't like so I played 2nd and now 5th edition.
Prestige Classes are special classes that you can only Multi-class into after you meet certain requirements. Typically they involve certain Skill Point distribution (3rd edition mechanic), selecting certain Feats, having a certain Spell Caster Level, or Base Attack Bonus. Most of these, and some of the Classes from 3rd edition are now subclasses in 5th edition.
For instance the Arcane Trickster Prestige Class required: A nonlawful Alignment, 7 Ranks in Decipher Script, 7 Ranks in Disable Device, 7 Ranks in Escape Artist, 4 Ranks in Knowledge (Arcana), the Mage Hand Spell, the ability to cast a 3rd level or higher Arcane Spell, and at least 2d6 Sneak Attack.
Most Prestige Classes have either 10 or 5 levels total to them, typically a person will get 5 levels in one Base Class (Rogue), 5 levels in another Base Class (Wizard), and 10 levels in a Prestige Class (Arcane Trickster). The only 5th edition Prestige Class made by Wizards of the Coast can be found here: Rune Magic
With how subclasses work, I don't really see any need for Prestige Classes anymore.
It looks like prestige class was something they dipped their toes in early in 2015 when 5th edition was still new, then decided it wasn't something they wanted to pursue. It's always kind of a fun idea, but the complexity of a prestige class flies in the face of the streamlined simplicity of 5th edition. I'm not saying it's incompatible, but I understand why it isn't really a thing in 5e.
Okay here we go, we do play the 3.5 version, but the DM also takes feats and stuff of later/earlier versions and changes it to fit in our version. The way it happened that i got the problem about any kind of magic is that we used the deck of many things. And the DM just changed some cards, so "the Void" became that ur not able to practice any kind of magic, but u wont be effacted by magic either.
I'll give u my stats right away:
5 lvl fighter ( sry but the warrior mistake) 2 lvl Wizard (well cant use this anymore so i wont list feats about magic)
Str = 19, Dex = 15, Con = 15, Int = 14, Wis = 12 and Cha = 13 HP = 52 and BAB = 6 Im a neutral neutral Human
Feats are: Profiency with any kind of armor and weapon, Power Attack, Cleave, Great Cleave, Weapon Focus/-Specialization Longsword, Negotiater The Feat i'd like to take sometime soon would be Leadership
I suggest, if your DM allows it, either picking up Purple Dragon Knight or Thayan Knight, both are good options that require a minor amount of investment from your current point and are 5 levels worth.
Purple Dragon Knight requires that you gain: Listen 2, Spot 2, and Mounted Combat Feat. You can do all of that by next Fighter level, well except the Skill Points since you'd have to spend them cross-class. However Purple Dragon Knight also requires that you not become Chaotic nor Evil, and it has the Special Requirement of Membership in the Purple Dragons which is something the DM will have to handle. It's first level is pretty good, you can use Aid Another to give an Ally a +4AC Bonus, and as a Free Action you can grant allies a small quick boast to Attack Rolls and Movement.
Thayan Knight requires that you gain: Knowledge (Local) 2, and Iron Will. Iron Will is NOT a Feat the Fighter can take as a Bonus Feat, so you'll have to wait to 9th (total) level. It also requires that you remain non-good, and the Special Requirement of swearing allegiance to the Red Wizards of Thay which is again something the DM will have to handle. It's first level grants you a Save Bonus against Fear and Charm effects, you also gain a +2 Bonus on Reflex and Intimidate Checks.
Out of those two I would select Thayan Knight. Some of the ones you've posted might be quicker to getting into and more what your looking for, Battle Master seems the best out of those options.
