I’ve decided to make a Changeling warlock of the fey and got a seventeen as one of my dice rolls which I put into my charisma so I could have a plus 4 at 1st level. Now at fourth level I could choose to get a 20 in charisma and a 16 in dexterity by leveling them up by one, or I could take the actor feat and still get the 20 in charisma as well as the advantage in pretending to be others. Any suggestions?
It depends on how you're playing your warlock. Are you doing a lot of intrigue where you need the Actor feat? Then go Actor. Are you doing a lot of things where you need a higher AC and higher saves? Go Dexterity.
I agree with Tim. If you are already or planning to pretend to be others, go Actor (definitely better to get it now if that is something you want to do). Otherwise, getting 2 stat mods up in 1 ASI is always a good choice.
I showed my DM my character plans, how the actor feat would effect how I would play my character, and he seemed really impressed with what I would be able to do. Since I would have the 20 in charisma he is somewhat happy that my other abilities aren’t over the charts powerful. With the actor feat I will be able to get us out of pinches and such.
Doesn't the actor feat duplicate the changeling key ability for the most part? Before I realised changeling was a race I could use, I was basically taking actor for the voice capability. Both of them get a deception check with advantage.
ACTOR:
You can mimic the speech of another person or the sounds made by other creatures. You must have heard the person speaking, or heard the creature make the sound, for at least 1 minute.
CHANGELING:
You decide what you look like, including your height, weight, facial features, the sound of your voice, coloration, hair length, sex, and any other distinguishing characteristics.
Which means for the most part Actor only benefits a changeling to the tune of CHA+1?
If you still really want the +1 to CHA, see if DM will alow you to tak Elven Accuracy, or just take an ASI for +1 CHA and +1 to another stat.
