I have a 5th level Halfling Arcane Trickster. The group allows a couple of re-makes if desired. My first impulse was to take 2 Wizard (Divination) and 3 AT. I wanted the portent and a larger selection of cantrips that would scale and more 1st level spells. Eventually looking at Shadow Blade and Shield. I have Find Familiar and use it constantly for help in attacks and sneak damage. The thought occurred to me to look at Trickery Cleric because of well, its trickery. I've used Mage Hand Legerdemain to deliver potions and the familiar to deliver shocking grasp. What if I used the familiar to deliver cure wounds and inflict wounds and other touch spells. I fell there might be some synergy with the invoke duplicity and sneak damage. Also thinking that the familiar might provide help with the attack of a spiritual weapon. Thinking about AT to level 9 for magical ambush. Honestly have doubts about how high we will level. Not overly concerned with MAD. Focusing on attack rolls. I've read people making a case for 1 Wiz/X AT, but portent sounds really fun. Does anyone have any experience developing a similar character?
Heading towards a build of AT 18/Diviner 2 is one i have explored. Take Lucky feat and you will most likely never miss an attack or a saving throw. You also get a ton of ritual spells you can cast for utility.
One thing to keep in mind is that the multi-classing rules are terrible for partial casters. AT calculates their spell slots as level/3 round up when single class, but round down when multi-classed. This means that a level 5 AT taking a level of wizard does not gain any spell slots. If you take several levels of wizard this becomes less of an issue but you basically give up a level of caster when multi-classing if your DM doesn't house rule it for you.

I say go for it.
Thanks!

Once I start taking wizard levels, I won't want to stop. AT is so slow on spell progression.
