What class/equipment would be best for a gunslinger? Using the dmg renaissance weapons table. And assuming that you can replace your standard weapons with guns.
You don't know what fear is until you've witnessed a drunk bird divebombing you while carrying a screaming Kobold throwing fire anywhere and everywhere.
Yeah, I'd rather carry Bad News (2d12 damage with a reasonably low misfire rate?) than whatever's in the DMG. It also has good rules for using tinker's tools to create ammo and repair the guns.
I mean, it's hard to top No Mercy Percy as a pretty well-optimized gunslinger.

So it really depends on the setting and how common firearms and explosives are but this book has a bunch of options for all styles of campaign, it is evolved around a fair amount of crafting the way I use it in my games but maybe it will inspire you and your dm
A solid option is the Artillerist Artificer, since you can put the Reloading Infusion on the firearm removing the need to load it, and you can spell-store Shatter into it. And this option doesn't involve any Homebrew.
If you are considering homebrew, there's Critical Role's Gunslinger, but also consider there are gun-fighting subclasses for most of the classes in the Tome of Heroes, or the Renegade from Legends of Runeterra.

The thing about Artillerist is, despite their name and having proficiency with firearms, they're really more built as blaster-style spellcasters. Now, if you want to reflavor your spellcasting as just using a weapon (you can use any infused gun as a spellcasting focus, after all), then they work fine as an ersatz gunslinger. However, if you want to make the most out of an actual PHB firearm, the Battlesmith Artificer is a better choice. They get Extra Attack, the ability to juice damage from their attacks with their Arcane Jolt, and even gets some smite spells that work with ranged weapon attacks.
Still, though... in terms of just outputting ranged damage, Artillerist is better. It just works best when you're using your turn to cast spells instead of making weapon attacks.
The gunslinger class is terrible and needlessly complex. A battlemaster fighter with the gunner feat is far more viable, particularly if you are going to use DMG guide guns.

I think something to keep in mind is that the Gunslinger Fighter SubClass is homebrew designed to adapt the dedicated Gunslinger class from Pathfinder into 5e. Pathfinder leans harder into micro-managing and has more versatility for what you can do in a single turn. It works just fine in that setting, but all the little things that are just a normal part of Pathfinder end up being handicaps in 5e.

I did NOT eat those hikers.
There's literally a Gunslinger class.
You don't know what fear is until you've witnessed a drunk bird divebombing you while carrying a screaming Kobold throwing fire anywhere and everywhere.
Yup. It's a fighter subclass. Just enable "critical role content" in the character builder.
Homebrew/Critical role allowed? Gunslinger fighter.
UA allowed? Artillerist artificer.
Official published content only? Probably battle master fighter. Or just wait until artificer is published.
That doesn’t use dmg guns

It can. Nothing is stopping it. Technically the subclass is homebrew and comes with homebrew expanded gun choices.

so I could technically be able to use a revolver.
