We have one person who has to play remotely. We want to know the best way to handle audio. Four people will be able to meet, one is remote. The remote person has a headphone and mic.
What’s the best audio solution for us?
The USB conference device’s audio is really poor for the remote user.
Lowest-cost solution? Get a good audio device like a Zoom h2n: https://www.amazon.com/Zoom-H2N-H2n-Handy-Recorder/dp/B005CQ2ZY6 It has really good 360-degree pickup if you place it well. Run the Zoom into a laptop running discord. It's a single-mic single-connection solution, so your bandwidth needs are lower.
Better version? Four separate mics, run into a 4-channel mixer, and run THAT into a laptop running discord. Better audio, still lowest bandwidth needs.
You could also just have everyone get on discord with their own mic and headset even if they're in the same room, but the bandwidth you need is 4 times higher, so you're going to start to get spotty connections.

Discord works really well and is free, I've not used it with several people in a room and only one remote but I would think it would work ok.
If you're doing remote audio, I'd recommend a separate mic for every person if possible or at least a separate mic for the DM.
