so im a mclass of a fighter and a wizard. i plan to be a level 7 wizard and a lv 13 fighter (if i even hit level 20) but thats the big end game goal. is this a good plan or?
The ability to cast a 5th level wizard spell (not the 5th level slot itself) could be sacrificed to pick up 1 or 2 levels of Artificer. Probably not worth it at high levels since it's mostly useful for replicating some specific magical items which by then you can get in other ways, but if you're starting at low levels and likely to stay there, a repeating crossbow or returning handaxe or something might fit your playstyle concept and be worth delaying higher level wizard spells for (but again, won't slow down your spell slots)

1 level of artificer wouldn't lose the 5th level spell slot, but 2 levels would. Artificer is half levels but rounded up, meaning Artificer1 and Artificer 2 only contribute 1 spellcaster level. I'm assuming you're basing the statement on the amended Wizard9/Fighter11 model. I don't have Rune Fighter in front of me (UA right?) but I don't recall that adding levels. Fighter11/Wizard7/Artificer2 would only be an 8th level caster. F11/W8/A1 would be 9th level though.
Oh they're half casters? Yeah, then Artificer probably isn't worth it, unless you pick up more levels to go deeper into the class and give up the hope of 5th level slots entirely.

Yeah but he wouldn't know any 5th spells. He would have 1 5th level Slot he could use to upcast.

Chicken_Champ mentioned that. My reply was specifically to their addition. Doesn't hurt to have that clarification for anyone though.

My Spells, My Races, My Magic Items, My Monsters, My Subclasses,
i feel like i should also add. im a Onomancer and going to be a Rune knight Fighter
My Spells, My Races, My Magic Items, My Monsters, My Subclasses,
I recommend going wizard 9/fighter 11 instead. You only give up a little HP and 1 use of indomitable, but you gain 5th level spells.
This will probably work fine. Progression will be a bit slow, but in the end, it should have more power than the average eldritch knight.
but wont i lose runes from runeknight then?
My Spells, My Races, My Magic Items, My Monsters, My Subclasses,
no i just checked i only need lv 10 fighter at most. hmm ill look into this idea
My Spells, My Races, My Magic Items, My Monsters, My Subclasses,
so i looked it over, and your idea is way better. thanks for the heads up
My Spells, My Races, My Magic Items, My Monsters, My Subclasses,
To be honest you should probably just play a Bard instead. There's alot of combat options in the Colleges.

I'm going to make this way harder than it needs to be.
