My level 12 wild magic sorcerer just got steamrolled and is not coming back. I was kinda getting bored of him as I did t feel I was getting much RP with him. I have two builds I'm tossing up between to play next, both would be human variant race and the DM has said to make it 13th level to match the party.
Battlemaster City Watch Investigator background. Would be neutral lawful and have the grappler feat. Would be fun to RP and could read Miranda rights after each arrest.
Swashbuckler Pirate background. Love this, but I'm concerned there'll be a lack of sea based adventure meaning I won't get much RP when my character wants to rule the waves.
What are peoples thoughts on what sways it for them? I haven't created a character for over a year so I'm finding deciding hard.
I have decided my new character will be part of the city watch. I want to basically play the tough cop with a bit of detective skills. I've looked at Swashbuckler, Bladesinger and Battlemaster as potential class options and I'm going to be matching the party at level 13 with this build. I've also considered feats like grappler and tavern brawler for making arrests in combat. What are peoples thoughts on what would make this build?
Halfling Barbarian. Lost her home to raiders, ended up on the streets of Bauldr's Gate, got taken in by a Watch Captian, is now a well respected Sergent.

Dwarven Battlerager Barbarian, his joining the city watch was to try and quell the rage, but instead it means he goes bad cop in his spiked armor.
