Yes, though you could gain access through magic initiate etc, you just need to be able to cast the spell as he described it. Not what he said but what I think is that the ritual caster feat in 5e should be just a tool proficiency that any class has access to, spell casters get it built into their class and have a feat maybe that gives you it with some other small perk around ritual casting, and with that sure have a barbarian cast rituals they are kind of shamanic in many of the subclasses I think it fits them fairly well.
while not being what is currently proposed in the UA, I kind of like the idea of a ritual always being a skill check with the cost of failure being just time. it feels like a decent middle ground between the current and new approach.
If they stick with the new ritual approach I expect there will be lot more spell rewrites than I first assumed from one dnd.
I see a whole lot of owl familiar in the game's future.
Flyby go brrrr
But yeah, while I think find familiar might find its way into more character builds, I don't think everyone will go right for that. As mentioned earlier, unless your DM has a hate-on for familiars, you might only need to cast it once during the day anyway. Whereas ritual spells like detect magic and identify are ones you usually would like to use more than once during the day.
With rituals for everyone and possibly prepared spells being the norm, the value of scrolls as magic items will be diminished. Free slots is still good though.

pfft, optimization be damned, I'mma get a Tressym instead, tho to be fair, they do work as a permanent, non-magical source of detect invisibility, so... that is a thing.

They were also updated as monstrosities, which would make them ineligible.

Not really, since even in Descent into Avernus (where they were a monstrosity from the get-go), they still said it can be a familiar option with the DM's permission.

The tressym description disagrees with that tho, says that they can be swapped with cats at DM digression.

Level 1 feats make it fairly easy, though is that really better than something like the lucky feat?
Personally, I hope they do something to tone down familiars as disposable scouts, but that doesn't really relate to ritual casting.
No, but it isn't strictly worse either. It's just a different set of benefits.
