What if the next version of the Bard didn't choose from one of the Arcane/Divine/Primal spell lists (and then get more later), but instead chose Schools of Magic? So you pick maybe 3 schools at 1st level and you can prepare any spell from any of the spell lists as long as it belongs to one of your chosen schools. So if you pick Evocation, Illusion and Abjuration then you can have an Illusion spell off the Divine spell list and an Evocation spell off the Primal list and another Illusion from the Arcane and so on and so forth. You aren't limited by spell lists, but by spell school.
And then at later levels you'd probably get to pick like a 4th and then a 5th school in order to expand your options. The specific numbers don't matter, that's all about balance. WotC seem to think given the Bard access to all 3 spell lists is fine (which I'm not sure about), so you might end up having all schools at higher levels so you have access to all 3 full spell lists.
Oh you can pic from any one... but you only get up to level 6 spells. You also get a handful more cantrips and level 1 or 2 spells. jack of all trades, not master of all trades.
I don’t know if they will do select spell schools anymore. I think they are looking to just go off of spell lists with some select spells being class specific (Find Steed, Eldritch Blast)
I think I would be fine with select a list at 1st level but not get everything at 10th. So either Magical Secrets as in 2014 or possibly pick one of the remaining two lists.
I like some of the changes for bards. So besides this spell list thing at 10th I’m overall happy with Bard.
Edit: now that all the other full casters get wish, how will they get Wish on Druids so they aren’t left out in the cold? 😉

Clerics already had wish via a subclass and bards already had it via magical secrets. Warlocks had it via a patron and now have via mystic arcanum. Access to wish hasn't really changed other than how it's accessed and clerics or sorcerers having a better version of it.
None of the above (or sort of a bigger version of the 2nd choice):
Bards should get all 3 of the main lists from 1st level, but be half-casters. Magical Secrets should be changed to being like Mystic Arcanum.
I kinda like this idea

Any time an unfathomably powerful entity sweeps in and offers godlike rewards in return for just a few teensy favors, it’s a scam. Unless it’s me. I’d never lie to you, reader dearest.

I wish they would bring back opposition schools to give wizards some more difficult decisions to make.
