I'll make one character of each class eventually, but here's Purvon Thintree:
Purvon was but a humble gnome, but the ruthless mockery he suffered as a child because of this unfortunate name, and short stature drove him to fits of rage. The only thing that could calm him down was long walks in the forest alone, but for the squirrels and butterflies. Until a fateful day, when he discovered a "biologist" from the nearby Elvish city catching & killing his beloved butterflies. He flew into a rage, grabbing the longest stick he could find and rammed it through the stomach of the collector. The city guard were not understanding, and Purvon fled into exile rather than face a public trial and potential execution, that is until he met up with the rest of the adventuring party....
I'll make one character of each class eventually, but here's Sir Elwyn Thiandriel:
Elwyn was the son of an aspiring middle-class elvish family, send to a private school with the children of the nobility, he learned to disguise his more humble origins. After schooling, he joined the army as a respected officer, as the first step on the path to a political career. That is until the unit under his command ran into a band of demons, which slaughtered his men and left the survivors half-mad, now in disgrace he seeks a new opportunity to prove himself...
I'll make one character of each class eventually, but here's Bernie Fireforge:
Bernie is an illegitimate son of the dwarven royal house. His mother refuses to reveal whom his true father is, but the family lived comfortably thanks to a stipend from the palace. Bernie was sent for vocational training from a young age as a Blacksmith, but soon discovered a strange affinity to fire. When he came of age, some of his skin turned hard and began growing scales, he covered it up but when an accident in the forge burned away his clothes his secret was revealed. Fearful of the implications, his mentor insisted he leave the dwarvish city and seek proper magical training....
I'll make one character of each class eventually, but here's Naiza Reinholt:
Naiza is the product of her father's pact with a Devil to save the family business. She is a tiefling who's fate was written before she was even conceived. When she came of age, she dreamt of the Nine Hells and the devil who owns her soul. Now she will do anything to find a way to escape this fate...
Note: I was going to go full Warlock, but I mean.. the MC with Sorcerer is just so good...
I'll make one character of each class eventually, but here's Mel'izi:
Mel'izi was born and raised in the underdark, she didn't see the sky until her 20th birthday. She was a weaver of the finest spider-silk gowns. Until a travelling minstrel came to town who played the most beautiful music on the flute, she's not sure why but she left with him and when she came to her senses she was deep in the Fey Wilds, surrounded by soporific flowers. The most beautiful woman she had ever seen insisted she make the most beautiful dress for a ball and in return the woman would give Mel'izi her blessing, whereas if she refused Mel'izi would be trapped as a statue in the woman's garden. Mel'izi completed the dress to the woman's approval and was released with her blessing now Mel'izi sets out trying to find her way home ....
Agilemind, I'd just like to say thank you for putting these builds up. In reality, I'm not even looking at the mechanics much but you do a great job of creating concise but very evocative backstories.
I'll make one character of each class eventually, but here's Astoria Nightingale:
Astoria is the daughter of one of the most notorious "alleged" criminals in Balder's Gate. Kept out of most of the business discussions, she grew up around low-level thieves and owners of gambling dens (legal and otherwise). It was at the age of 7 that one of them first showed her his lucky charm, and not long after that she had learned the dozens of superstitions and different ways of worshipping the gods of luck and thievery practiced by those of the underworld. When she was finally old enough to go on jobs, she quickly became a favourite of the gang, and nicknamed "Lucky Charm" as whatever she attempted seemed to effortlessly succeed. That is until the fateful day, when she returned home from a job to find her mother murdered and her father falsely arrested for the crime, and the organization taken over by a rival organization. She fled the disaster, swearing to one day return and take her vengeance....
I'll make one character of each class eventually, but here's Druwin Stoneheart:
Born in high in the mountains, as part of a dwarven caravan on their way to build a new settlement, Druwin was a difficult child. Taller than the average dwarf, he was stubborn even by dwarvish standards, and very competitive. He was constantly challenging the other children to jump across rivers, climb up trees, or other mischief but would have already planned a route himself that would ensure he would usually win. One fateful day, he had challenged his best friend Ulina to a race to the top of the mountain when the weather suddenly turned an thunderstorm formed overhead, while Ulina dashed undercover he took it for a chance to beat her to the peak but before he could make it a bolt of lightning arced down and struck his chest. When he awoke, he was in a mossy bed, being tended to by an aged druid. The druid asked no payment for her help, but rather insisted he visit her every 7th day to help her with her chores as recompense, which he did stubbornly precisely every 7th day. He learnt much under her tutelage. Until on one visit, she led him back to the top of the mountain to show him fire erupting from a distant peak, and told him that someone was tearing the hearts from the mountains and eventually it would be this mountain that would erupt in fire and smoke unless he could find a way to stop them, and so he packed his bag and set off on his journey....
I'll make one character of each class eventually, but here's Nara Longtooth:
Found on the doorstep of the Monastery as babe, Nara was raised among the order of metallic dragonborn known as the Order of the Five Dragons. Despite lacking an innate elemental affinity like her peers, she took to the training and managed to harness all the elements equally. But she always felt out of place, she shaved her head, she wore snake-skin robes but there was no hiding the fact that she was different. To block out the loneliness, she focused on her studies progressing rapidly up the ranks until on her 23rd birthday she was made a full member of the Order and earned the privilege to leave the Monastery and explore the world. With a sad farewell to Krill, her mentor a Kobold and Master of the Elemental Arts, she sets out to discover who she really is and why she was abandoned...
Monk - Warrior of the Elements - Orc Ability Scores: 12, 15+2+1 (Grappler), 13+1, 10 14 8
I'll make one character of each class eventually, but here's Gerrik Dondarion:
The seventh son of a second son, Gerrik was last on a long list of inheritors of the family's large estate. While his older brothers and sisters were taught history, politics, and business, he was often forgotten about and left to his own devices. This more often than not seemed to involve playing with the children of the servants or sneaking off into town to hang out with the street urchins. As a result, despite his noble heritage, Gerrik felt more at home among the peasants than the aristocracy. When the peasants protested for better wages, Gerrik was among the protestors hurling abuse at his own family. When his father found out, he was immediately sent to the local Paladin Order to 'straighten him out'. But rather than dissuade Gerrik of his ideals, the Order fostered them teaching him to channel his passions to become a champion for the poor and powerless. Now as he completes his training, he sets out to put his ideas into action....
Paladin - Devotion - Half-Orc (using either Human or Orc stats would work well with this character). Ability Scores: 15+2+1 (PAM), 10, 13+1, 12 8 14
I'll make one character of each class eventually, but here's Sa'hara Eastwind:
A no nonsense overconfident young wood-elf from a stable family, Sa'hara strides through the forest like she owns it. Flawlessly mimicking the birdcalls, and never needing to pack supplies because nature provides whatever she needs. When she came of age, she set out on "the Ordeal" - to survive two weeks in the forest completely alone - with utter confidence. However, after only a few hours a torrential storm struck causing the river to flood. She sought shelter up the tallest tree she could find, tying herself to its branches to sleep. In the morning, she woke to find the flood waters still too high to safely descend and just above her a large black panther was crouched licking its lips hungrily. After some tense negotiations, they agreed to work together to survive until the water receded some 10 days later. But when Sa'hara returned to her village at the end of the two weeks, she found the village destroyed and strange two-headed dogs stalking the ruins. She threw herself at the vile creatures but they were larger and stronger than she had thought. They threw her to the ground and just as they lunged to land a killing bite, a streak of black fur leapt from a nearby bush tackling the death dog - it was the black panther come to her rescue. Together they pushed back the dogs long enough to escape, before setting out together to search for answers....
I'll make one character of each class eventually, but here's Gru'ul Razorteeth:
Gru'ul's father was a loyal soldier to the king, after he was killed in action, his mother fell apart and sent Gru'ul to be raised by his uncle the chieftain of a nomadic band of Orcs that migrate from subarctic prairies to temperate forests each year. He grew strong, hunting, fishing and building the band's temporary shelters. But during a hard year, the band trespassed on the king's land in order to find sufficient game to feed themselves. The kingsguard confronted them. When Gru'ul was the only member of the band who agreed to pay the king's fine, he was branded a 'Kerchuk' - a traitor to the band - from then on he was treated with scorn and derision until on the day of their migration his uncle told him he would not be coming with the band....
I'll make one character of each class eventually, but here's Maurice Fiddlesticks, Esq.:
Maurice Fiddlesticks was a lawyer in a big city with a taste for fine art. His favourite has always been the elegant colourful works of Elvish artists and his patronage has earned him many friends among the Elvish community. He wears only the newest fashions and dyes his hair exotic colours. However, when a particular piece is beyond the means of his pocket book, he finds other ways to "liberate" it from the vaults where it languishes unseen and unappreciated - often with the help of his partner Matheus, an unusually intelligent rat with a taste for fine food. However, when the local Thieves Guild became aware of his 'activities' they demanded he pay dues or face the consequences. Maurice was undeterred, he could knew he could handily beat any accusations against him in a court of law. It was not until he saw the inferno consuming his manor house that he realized just how badly he had misjudged the situation. His wealth up in smoke, and fearing for his life, Maurice tucked Matheus under his hat and fled the city....
I'll make one character of each class eventually, but here's Bonnie O'Malley:
Bronwyn O'Malley was the daughter of a respectable merchant family, who were best known for importing of Coffee and Cocoa from distant lands. A handsome straight-shooting captain of a navy ship had been courting her for many months, with the full support and encouragement of her parents. There was only one problem, he was dreadfully boring. Bronwyn was fascinated by the tales of the travelling minstrels that frequently passed through their port town and told of daring adventure, dangerous monsters, and strange distant lands. But that was not her place, she was to be a good loyal wife, to a good loyal man and that was the end of it according to her parents. On the day of her wedding, when she was left alone as demanded by silly superstition, she ripped off her dress and pawned her jewelry to buy passage on the fastest ship currently in the port - which just so happened to be a pirate ship. When she made it clear she would not be ransomed, by cutting off the ear of the captain, she was allowed to change her name and join the crew. She was even gifted a parrot companion by the Quartermaster to earn the good graces of her sharp tongue. But one dark moonless night, something large and powerful struck the ship from below, snapping it in half. Bonnie swam for her life through frothing seas, with the screams of her crew echoing in her ears, keeping her eyes on Peggy the parrot who guided her to shore. As the new dawn rises Bonnie staggers ashore with nothing but the clothes on her back...
I'll make one character of each class eventually, but here's Cirrida Skyborne:
Cirrida Skyborne is a daydreamer. She's walked into stationary objects on multiple occasions because she was too distracted thinking about things. However, being the daughter of a dairy farmer in a remote village, she was mocked ruthlessly by her more practically minded peers. While her parents just shrugged, expecting it was just a phase she would grow out of, but entertained her curiosity the best they could, buying whatever books they could afford when the merchant caravans passed through the village and letting her study at the local temple. One stormy night when Cirrida was reading late in her bedroom a strange rider rode past her window atop a ghostly horse. She snuck out to follow the rider, only to see if fall from the mount as it vanished into thin air and lie gasping in the middle of the road. She ran over to him in time to hear his last dying wish, begging her to take the book from his bag and keep it safe no matter the cost and tell no one of its existence. She took the book and ran back to her room, stashing it under her bed to read later. But in the morning, dead rats and cockroaches surrounded the tome and several people in the village had started to feel ill - though not Cirrida. Realizing the book must be the cause, Cirrida carefully packed it up in an old trunk and snuck away to find someone who could help.....
I think in current UA, the following is an interesting concept and I'd develop it more if I came close to ever playing him, Boltus Mistsinger:
Boltus drifts through life going from one area to the next, always following their latest curiosity. While wondering through a forest, following sightings of strange creatures which resemble pixies, Boltus managed to find a ritual dedicated to their deity. Interrupting the ritual caused distress among the pixies whom had summoned an avatar of Titania to converse with, with quick wit and charisma Boltus apologized and offered to repay with services for the disruption that he caused; Titania accepted the offer and took Boltus on as an apprentice warlock whom would rend services to her.
This character is designed to be a mixture of illusionary support and a martial fighter, it's mostly a lot of trickster moves and illusions. The mixture of Musician and Inspiring Leader to get the Inspiration and temp HP after a short/long rest makes this character a strong out-of-combat supporter. Additionally at level 7, with greater invisibility, this guy can greater invisibility and misty step in to hit with Dreadful Step. The Uncommon item is a Greatsword of Warning, a great utility weapon and can be made the pact weapon of choice.
Edit: been editing this one a fair bit, realized this is a case where Agonizing Blast going on a different cantrip is actually better, hitting 2 creatures with sword Burst would be 13.2 damage, while Eldritch Blast would be 12.35 damage, when at level 6 you get Dreadful Step, you can combine it with Sword Burst to do two AoEs in an area, potentially doing up to 2d10+2d6+4 ( ~22 ) damage in a 5 foot AoE around yourself, you'd roughly expect an average DPR per creature of around 13.2, assuming a 40% chance to save on both moves.
Of course, this play style is somewhat risky, but with the reaction to be able to misty step + invis away, it's not too crazy. Keep repelling blast for some battlefield control, being able to push a few enemies back, even if just 10 foot, can still be helpful even if Eldritch Blast doesn't do as much damage.
These two come as a pair but the main build is Hoc Boc-Loc, which synergizing with any Rogue secondary character or even a Barbarian or Paladin.
I'll make one character of each class eventually, but here's Hoc Boc-Loc & Roc Boc-Loc:
Hoc Boc-Loc and Roc Boc-Loc are sisters and each other's best friend and arch-nemesis. Hoc is the eldest with a reserved personality and natural air of authority and leadership. She is serious, responsible, and tactical. In contrast, her sister Roc is a hot-head, implusive, reckless, and improvisational. Their frequent and intense arguments have led to a decade of absence from each other's lives as Hoc became an accomplished captain of the city guard, while Roc fell in with a group of smugglers and thieves to pay off her gambling debts. However, when a dragon attacked and conquored their home, it was only through working together that they managed to escape. Now their bond reforged in fire and blood, they go into the world seeking help to reclaim their home....
Note: Hoc Boc-Loc is designed to act as a protector to Roc (using Sentinel) and use their Commander Strike to get Roc 2x Sneak Attack per round. Note 2: You could easily substitute Fire & Frost Goliaths for Red & White Dragonborn for this pair.
I'll make one character of each class eventually, but here's Dreva Brimshaw:
Dreva had the voice of an angel, but the appearance of a devil. Never had such sweet songs been heard as when the 12 year old opened her mouth to sing. She was invited to perform for lords and ladies then kings and queens across the land. Her ambitious parents escorting her each step of the way. But eventually the sparkle faded, the cute child became a moody teen and then eccentric artiste. She moved out to the forest, where there were no more distractions from her experimental music, as the birds did not demand she sing the same song she had been singing since she was 10. That is until a message arrived from an old friend urgently requesting her help....

Sword Burst (per creature): ( 2d6 + 4 ) * 0.6 = 7.15
Eldritch Blast: ( 1d10 * 0.65 ) * 2 = 6.6
