What do you think the 4th Fighter Subclass will be, now that Brawler is out? What would you like it to be? Do you think it will be one of the existing subclasses, or something new? Given their "balancing" of subclasses within a class (like the Land/Sea, Stars/Moon Druids, e.g.), does that inform what it might be? I'm not exactly sure of what their intended balancing themes are in Fighter. Champion, Battle Master, Eldritch Knight, and....???
Honestly, I'm picturing something that emphasizes ranged for the fourth now; either Arcane Archer or something new.
I don't see why. All of the current subclasses are perfectly viable with both melee and ranged Fighters.

Look at what you've done. You spoiled it. You have nobody to blame but yourself. Go sit and think about your actions.
Don't be mean. Rudeness is a vicious cycle, and it has to stop somewhere. Exceptions for things that are funny. Go to the current Competition of the Finest 'Brews! It's a cool place where cool people make cool things.

But the default image of a Fighter still skews towards melee; exactly how many class pictures of a Fighter have you seen where they're wielding a bow? Giving them a ranged specialist will help give the build a way to stand out if people want it.

it wont be something new, because they said the fighter is finished in testing, and that they planned to test all the major changes rto classes.
So it will probably be one of the other subclasses thats fairly popular.
I bet Rune Kinght. It works with Ranged or Melee, Dex or STR. It has the flavor of giants. And it fulfills the need of a grappler build that can wrestle Huge creatures.
I'd bet against Arcane Archer, it compares poorly against Battle Master and Eldritch Knight. And I doubt WoTC has time to spare to accurately bring subclasses up to par.
My money is on Samurai. It's going to have a wider appeal, and thus is more applicable to a core rule book.

Any time an unfathomably powerful entity sweeps in and offers godlike rewards in return for just a few teensy favors, it’s a scam. Unless it’s me. I’d never lie to you, reader dearest.
Rune Knight or Cavalier would be my bets. I would prefer Rune Knight of the two, but I believe Cavalier has the better chance since it is older and offers a different play style. Champion is your simple beginner friendly fighter, Battle Master is more complex fighter, Eldritch Knight lets you play around with spell casting and Cavalier would let you play as more video game like tank.
I think it'll be Psi Warrior because that'd be the easiest for them, as it needs no changes really. In addition, it fits fine in core since they're adding Aberrant Mind Sorcerer and dialing up the psionic theming on Great Old One Warlock.
But I would definitely love to see a buffed Arcane Archer though.
Have they confirmed that there will be four subclasses per class in the eventuality PHB? The only statement I remember seeing was that they would present 48 subclasses in the playtest process, which doesn’t mean that all 48 would make it. They could be presenting four and dropping the lowest scoring one (which would be neatly analogous to rolling ability scores).

I hope that there’ll be four each, though.
Yes, it was 12 classes, 4 subclasses each. It was somewhere but not sure where and at work so don’t have time to look
Most likely the Rune Knight, yeah. Scratches the itch of "magical warrior" without getting spellcasting, while tagging mysticism, giants, craft-adjacent fantasy, and grappling dragons into the ground.

I'm thinking, and hoping, it'll be arcane archer. That subclass really need some love. It's a likeable concept hindered primarily by only one major issue - the number of uses of its special abilities. That should be easy to correct.
The Tasha's classes require the least amount of work, so they'll likely go with those. Rune Knight is more likely in my mind as it's the easiest to cram into that whole 4 quadrat thing they are doing. (Tactics vs equipment)

The shots have enough kick that if you give them more uses per rest you’d probably have to make them only refresh on long rests to balance. Or reduce the power in exchange for more uses, at which point you might as well go Battlemaster. Arguably the bigger issue might be the use of INT for the DC, but between the DEX focus for attacks and so presumably AC and Fighter’s extra ASI, that’s less of an issue. Maybe bump Curving Shot to 10th level and come up with one more full feature for the subclass at 7th.

My gold is on Samurai or Echo Knight.
Silver is on Rune Knight or Psy-Knight.
Copper is on Purple Dragon Knight or a new subclass.

if there's two PHB playtests left, arcane archer for sure.
since there's almost certainly only one PHB playtest remaining, samurai.
... although, either psi guy or purple dorkus nerd would be really great for rounding out the base options.
unhappy at the way in which we lost individual purchases for one-off subclasses, magic items, and monsters?

I think Arcane Archer would need to be play tested.

I doubt Echo since it’s a Critical Role subclass. But I could see Samurai
