I really like war forged that are adaptable or at least have some choice to enable classes other than warrior or barbarian. I would argue that just being able to change the strength ability modifier for others is fine but others say that is op for spell casters. Thoughts on ways to make this class more versatile and balanced?

My biggest issue with the homebrew you suggested is the weak AC and no juggernaut subrace. The warrior subrace that is listed is very similar to the Juggernaut but does not have the same artistic language description.
The AU version really needs the extra subraces of Juggernaut, Scout etc. Also, the Warforged race really reminds me of Bastion in Overwatch :)
You have to remember that the EberronUnearthed Arcana release was the first one that the team had done.
Take a look at the Artificer (as a school of Wizardry!) rules in it. Now take a look at the Artificer (as a unique class!) rules that came two years later.
I fully expect that when we see 5E Eberron rules (or even a return to them in Unearther Arcana) we'll see the Warforged rules get a similar upgrade.
Until then, I recommend using Keith Baker's first run at Warforged instead of UA's first run, found here from another Warforged discussion on the Forums.

I try to remind myself this all the time. I'm super excited to see what revisions are made to the Warforged in a future UA or Eberron source book, they've always been a favorite of mine.

Maybe the below link to someone's homebrewed version might help. Click the "get pdf" link if text is off the page.

The Warforged as a race just has not been visited again after the initial page in the AU. @Questor, I like the homebrewed version but prefer this one

Here is another good version of the race: Warforged Part II
