I was about to buy the book and even convince my friends to get it.
But how they, WotC absolutely CANT help themself to neuter, butcher in some sort of non-understanding to spiteful way, curb past versions of these classes, even the UA pre-versions into the ground? NO THANKS!
Homebrew is great, but Im in a group where homebrew is scawy, icky EVEN within sound, balanced and filling parameters of the spell, class, traits etcs themself.
Players wont be aware of homebrew fixes, since its not official and get scared its something not officialy written. WotC seems to bank on players not being aware of adjustments fans have done to their neutered, de-fanged classes, species and sub-classes.
Example is the " new and improved " Undead pact warlock, gutting the 1d4 + 2 from intelligence, no healing from necrotic damage etc. Trying to railroad the sub-class into the gorund for SPECIFIC ways to play.
And the Ranger, base ranger? A mockery. Compared to all other classes. I homebrew it easly by having Hunters Mark be concentration free at level 9. And thats bare minimum. Capstone is pathetic. Up the damage die even more and add three options to enchance your melee/ ranged weaponry. You get to choose only 1 though. No amount of " better " sub-classes for the Ranger cures it. Its just band-aid.
I will rather buy the older Van Richtne guides to Ravenloft instead. I suggest all others do the same before they dont print those anymore. Same for Tasha, Fizban, Xanathar and Mordekainens Monsters of the Multiverse. GET those before its too late!
Wotc opens for UA which often have fantastic first iteration, but then.. while stressed and anxious ( do they go with this logical, sound version or.. ah NOPE ) waiting for them to approve, they last-ditch screw it up mindblowingly. And you better bet theres no chance in the void they will relaunch new books with " fixes and revamps " of those again, slight hope is the digital varsions.
Gotta wait for D&D 6e or rely on sadly obscure homebrew fixes which is worked against seemingly
