So the warforged Envoy has the integrated tool that says this: "Choose one tool you’re proficient with. This tool is integrated into your body, and you double your proficiency bonus for any ability checks you make with it. You must have your hands free to use this integrated tool."
The Artificer has a class feature called "Tool Specialization" which states "Starting at 2nd Level, your proficiency bonus is double for any ability check you make that uses any of the tool proficiencies you gain from this class"
So, RAW: I get quadruple bonus on any one tool? Is there any ruling that negates that? I mean, rules as intended, this obviously doesn't stack. I'm looking only at RAW.
Your proficiency bonus can’t be added to a single die roll or other number more than once. For example, if two different rules say you can add your proficiency bonus to a Wisdom saving throw, you nevertheless add the bonus only once when you make the save.
Occasionally, your proficiency bonus might be multiplied or divided (doubled or halved, for example) before you apply it. For example, the rogue’s Expertise feature doubles the proficiency bonus for certain ability checks. If a circumstance suggests that your proficiency bonus applies more than once to the same roll, you still add it only once and multiply or divide it only once.
Yes the Artificer already has expertise in the tools provided by the class, so the warforged would have to select a new tool to gain that benefit, which is actually even better as expertise is an awesome thing to have.
