I know it predates the Jan 18 integration with DDB, but is there any news about the long-term fate of the theurgy tradition for wizards? Has there been a definitive word from WotC that this subclass is archived or is still on the table for a future product? I've got a character in play for whom I intended to use this option, but was disappointed to see no one has built it out with the homebrew tools, already, and am having some trouble doing so myself.
I built a theurgy hack subclass. I never shared it because it only works for the Knowledge domain and I had to make some of the class choices in the builder not the character sheet.
IIRC, I think the struggle with making a working theurge everyone could be happy with had something to do with, since wizards have that arcane recovery feature, gaining cleric spells would make them excessively good healers. In terms of raw numbers, it could potentially make them better overall healers than several clerics, as well as many other healer options.
That said, I could be off base, I'm a bit fuzzy on the details. Plus, I mean, circle of lands for the druid class gains something similar to the arcane recovery feature, so they can heal lots, so... IDK.
Yeah, if that was the argument, I feel like it's kind of a thin one. :/ I'm still learning the homebrew builder and tbh, it seems a little clunky (though that could be me), so I'm struggling to construct my own subclass in DDB... I don't want to have to use a paper sheet for this character, since that kind of defeats the point.
I really do hope they bring back theurgy, even if they feel the need to tweak it. The worry that wizards might out-heal clerics really just pigeonholes clerics as healbots more than it does anything else, which we all know isn't fair. Clerics are a lot more than that, and arcane healing doesn't make them worse somehow.
If anyone has any tips or advice for hacking out this arcane tradition in homebrew, I'd be glad to have it. Right now I'm just kind of reading through guides elsewhere online to try and get a better handle on the toolset.

Yeah, I'm inclined to agree. If healing spell slots coming back on a short rest is that big of an issue, then it'd be a little silly since the Circle of Land druid, as well as the Celestial for warlock can both do that to a lesser extent. But again that's only if I haven't completely forgotten the ACTUAL reason they haven't redone it.
That said, I wish I could help you with the homebrew maker. There's a few guides out there, including on YouTube, but when I've tried messing with it I honestly found it a huge headache. Though that might just be because I am not a patient person. :u
Same, tbh. Hopefully I'll get it figured out; I just remain surprised no one else has really done in the time since the archetype was released, considering quite a few people seem to feel similarly about wanting to use it (according to a few searches). If I can crack it out properly, I'll have to make it public so folks can use it.
I agree, that's a weak reason. 'Niche protection' should be done at the table level, not the game level. It doesn't matter how many classes do X, so long as each player gets his time to shine at the table.

It was a pain.

Anyway, thanks for the help and support!
