Hi, first time poster on the forum. Want some advice on a concept I'm cooking up for a future campaign.
I'm curious as to how Psi warrior/ Soulknife work with each other as a multiclass build.
Like which would work best as main? Fighter or Rogue?
Possible feats to use such as Telekinetic or Telepathy?
And one more thing: Since both subclasses come with their own psionic energy dice, does that mean I can use one set to fuel another's power set? Or are they restricted to their own subclass?
To answer the last question, I'd probably say the die pools need to be kept separate. Mostly because they increase in size as a function of class level, so you'll hit points where the die from one is larger than the other. That said, if it were me DM'ing, I'd probably let you throw them all together, and just use whichever the highest applicable die was.
As far as which one to be the primary class, that's going to depend on what you're trying to get out of it. There's good reasons to do both.
Personally, from those feat options, I'd go telekenetic for a fighter/rogue, but that's largely going to depend on the game and how much rp there is. If you'll get a lot of mileage from detect thoughts, then telepathic might be a bit more useful. Either way, if you're planning that feat, I'd say to take the wis bump, and plan your starting stats accordingly (put an odd number in wis, so you can get more use from the bump.

That answers a lot of my questions.
Probably go for Fighter main/ Rogue second with Dhampir legeacy so I can leap wall to wall while throwing opponents with my mind.
Though with the telepathy feat, I could do a more of rogue main that steals thoughts as well as pockets.
Personally I would rule the psionic energy die as one collective pool rather than 2 separate ones between soulknife and psi warrior.
You're going to somehow need to get booming blade too keep up in damage with extra attack, assuming you're trying to get the multiclass as early as possible (psi warrior 3/soulknife 3), and the only way I think you can get it is from your race, either from high elf, or variant human (Magic Initiate). Then at level 7, I'd say take telepathic. Note that booming blade doesn't work with Soulknife's summoned weapons, I think the point of this build would be to have a bunch of psi energy die to go NOVA with or to be able to use more consistently across an adventuring day
For main class past level 6, I'd say fighter would be better than rogue
I think the inherent problems between these two sub-classes are as follows: Psi-Warrior is probably the most MAD fighter class, more than even the Eldritch Knight and multi-classing with any Rogue class forces you into a Dex build. While this isn't the end of the world, the 30 foot limitation of most of the Psi-Warrior features makes ranged build less attractive. Might I suggest multi-class Psi-Warrior builds that make more use of your Intelligence score.
A 2-level dip of War Wizard will give you the following: Booming Blade/Green Flame Blade cantrip, Mage Hand cantrip, and some good 1st-level spells like Shield and Catapult that are easily re-flavored as psionic powers. You'll also get a boost to your Initiative as well as Arcane Deflection.
Another option would be to take 2-3 levels of Artificer. Artificer will give you the same cantrip options as well as Catapult (no Shield though). At level 2 you get to infuse magic items. +1 magic weapon and/or armor is nice to have. Plus you can change your infusions after each long rest depending on what the campaign demands. At level 3 you can go Battlesmith and then you can use your Intelligence modifier for attack and damage rolls providing you are using a magic weapon (which you can make). Throw in the Steel Defender for kicks.
I think you'll find these synergize a lot more with Psi-Warrior than the Soul-Knife which is unfortunate.

After some time considering the angles, I think your Psi-warrior/Battlesmith might be a better idea to try.
But what is it that makes a Psi Warrior MAD as you call it? Is it the limited amount of psi dice you get or something else?

The Psi-Warrior requires not only a good STR/DEX score but also a high INT because so much of their psionic abilities depend on the INT bonus. Throw in the almost universal need for a good CON score and you've good a good deal of MADness going on. Three levels of Battlesmith lets you focus on your INT score for attack and damage rolls providing you are using a magic weapon.
regarding the Psi Warriors MADness, you can do very well with an intelligence of 16 for the majority of the characters features. I’d really only recommend getting to 18 at higher levels when it’s party support feature comes online, which might never be the case with a multi class.

Jeremy Crawford has ruled regarding the sharing of Psionic Dice (or lack thereof in this case)

Shameless plug, I attempted to write a psi warrior guide a while back and believe it might still be relevant to this discussion.
