Literally any of them. Backgrounds determine aspects of your character outside of their adventuring class, most notably what they did before they became an adventurer. Any background can fit with any class.
Soldier and Folk Hero might be obvious fits for a Fighter, but Sage or Acolyte might give you more roleplaying ideas because they don't fit as cleanly. You might also pick a background that gives you skill, tool, or language proficiencies that you want to add. But the point of backgrounds is not to pick the "right" one - it is to choose one that fits the character you want to play.

More to this point something like Sage or Acolyte could explain a later choice of going Eldritch Knight over Champion or Battlemaster. But it all comes down to how you want your characters story to have evolved. Were they a haughty noble, raised with privilege, who joined the military like his father before him and now carries and officers title? Then a Noble background may be for you, and your character will not only be killer with a weapon but also be able to mix and mingle with the upper echelons. Or on the opposite side, maybe your parents were killed or couldn't take care of you and you eeked out a living stealing and generally being a menace to society, then you were caught and sent to a slave camp where hard labor fashioned you into a tough machine, eventually earning you the right to participate in the gladiator circuit; in this case Urchin might fit your background.
Basically anything goes when it comes to backgrounds, use them less as a mechanic, and more of a jumping post to really flesh out your character.
Think about your early life, teen life and young adult life. How did you grow up? Where? With who? What did they (parents or other) do for a living? What did they teach you? What are your motivations in life? Do you just want to make enough coin to get drunk each night or are you looking to pave your way to something bigger? What is it that you want from the proceeds of your hard work?
just some questions that can help you get started, hope it helps...happy hunting!
