I could use some help, please. I've been trying to create a new magical weapon and have done plenty of searching and trying both 2014 and 2024 tooltip modifying but neither a producing. I'm mostly receiving errors. I feel like I'm missing something but I cannot figure it out.
The main resource I've used is how-to-add-tooltips. I've also tried searching Google but have not found my answer.
You deal an additional [ roll ] 1d8 [/ roll ] (without spaces) Radiant damage against fiends and undead with this sword.
Does not add the roll into the item. Additionally, I've tried everything to get [Tooltip Not Found] to work to no avail.
You can cast sanctuary up to three times per day without material components.
This is the ONLY tooltip that is working for me.
Additionally, you deal an extra [ roll ] 2d10 [/ roll ] (without spaces)Radiant damage against fiends and undead with this sword instead of 1d8
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
Ok, so first, the roll tags aren't to show what the damage is, it's for forum play. When it works, it gives a numerical answer so if you're playing a game in the forum, you can have dices rolls. It looks like this: 3. It's not intended for in homebrew - it wouldn't really make sense. If you're trying to assign that trait (for example, a weapon that does d8 damage) then that's handled using the interface, not via tooltips.
Second, whatever the tooltip you're trying to use is, it seems to be wrong. If you tell me the reference and what you're using for tags, then maybe I can help. At the moment, DDB isn't recognising it, so something is obviously going wrong. In my experience, it's usually that we're trying to use the wrong syntax.

If you're not willing or able to to discuss in good faith, then don't be surprised if I don't respond, there are better things in life for me to do than humour you. This signature is that response.
Sorry, didn't realize it rendered the error instead.
[ rules ] firedamage;fire [/ rules ] without the spaces of course.
To your other point, I thought there was a way in a weapon or item to add a link for roll 1d anything that would make it so that players can select that roll?

I'm a DM that likes to see my players succeed. I will not make it easy for them though.
It should be fire damage, rather than firedamage (and will result in fire damage). Apparently they haven't done the rules version yet, so you have to use the rule version instead. The semicolon to change how it reads is fine.
I'm not that familiar with the system - to my knowledge, you have to preselect it when you're creating the item. If you want a fire shortsword (1d6), you create one. If you want an option to be it changes to a greataxe (1d12), I think you have to create a separate item. But I might be wrong on that, the homebrew forum is probably a better place to ask this.

Seems to me you're trying to do something similar to the Flametongue. If that"s the case, DDB won't add extra character sheet rolling to it. It'll just have a note to roll something extra.

This is a signature. It was a simple signature. But it has been upgraded.
