The best way to start is to be a recognized contributor to the community. Moderation privileges are awarded rarely, and never to unknowns. They are granted to people who've proven through contributions to the forum over time that they can be trusted with moderation powers.
So, to get started? Post more, contribute, and become a forum regular.
Moderators are selected by special criteria to be offered the role. There is no application and there is no site to outline the criteria.
Be active. Be kind. Be helpful. Be well-typed. Lead by example. Requesting to become a moderator is not likely to have any positive effect toward that goal.
It is also possible that they might not be looking to add any more moderators at this time.
Instead, just enjoy the sights and community that the forum has to offer. Get to know the environment. Don't worry about being a moderator. Simply have fun.

Human. Male. Possibly. Don't be a divider. My characters' backgrounds are written like instruction manuals rather than stories. My opinion and preferences don't mean you're wrong. I am 99.7603% convinced that the digital dice are messing with me. I roll high when nobody's looking and low when anyone else can see.🎲 “It's a bit early to be thinking about an epitaph. No?” will be my epitaph.
Why do you want to be a moderator in the first place? Because if it is to contribute to the community or make these forums better for the users you can do that anyway, by participating constructively.

Thankfully I am not qualified for such a title. Our moderators are amazing! They have to deal with so many issues that just saying thank you is not enough. And I for one, would probably never want that kind of responsibility. It is a taxing job. Have no doubt about that.
