Hello, I have been playing D&D for several years now, and we have been struggling with our set up. My players and I have families, so we have problems with cash and space in our homes. I began playing with Above VTT, and it has been great since we don't have to worry about maps and miniatures. Since we like to play in person, I am trying to figure out how to set up some kind of monitor. My wife won't like me cut up the dinning room table to install and monitor under the table. I am looking for a setup that I can place on during game night and clean up easily afterwards. It would be cool if there was like 24 to 37 inch tablet I could use, but I not it they exist. What I guess would work is a flat monitor with a mini cpu I can hook up to it to run the map. Do anyone have any set up that would work for me? Thank you in advance.
I'm a little unsure of what exactly it is that you want. Why not just have a TV on the wall and cast onto it using a tablet or hook it up to a PC/laptop/etc with a HDMI? Sure, you don't get the looking down from above thing, but that would cost $$$ to do properly. I've only used a virtual tabletop as an experiment and didn't get on with it, so maybe I'm missing something.
With the above solution, ideally I'd have the DM at a desk with the TV on the wall behind him. All the players would be on three sides of a table in front of the DM, so they can easily see the DM as well as the TV. Obviously, you'd have to modify that to work with your space - most people don't have the room for that.
I'd you can clarify exactly what you want L,. Maybe we can help a bit more.

Sorry I wasn't clear. Some of my players want to used miniatures. The idea for the monitor on the table was so they still use them. We are in a crossroad, where some of us wants to be more digital, where the only thing we need is a laptop or tablet, and the others still want dice and miniatures. I am trying to find a middle ground. I did thought about having a TV on the other end of the table, but some players didn't like that they couldn't use their miniatures.
So, you want to use a screen as the battle mat, basically? So you don't have to draw the maps etc but can still use physical miniatures?
Understandable, that was be something that I wanted to do as well. I'm not a fan of how the virtual tabletops did gameplay, but the idea that I can just scan in a map rather than having to draw them, often in the middle of a sesion is great. My Samsung Frame would be ideal for it, but my wife doesn't like the idea of dismounting it. She seems to think that TVs are for watching TV.
Maybe you can find a cheap second hand TV. It doesn't have to be flashy, so long as you can connect your computer or device up to it. Still, that's a fair bit of money, although cheaper than a giant monitor.
