This is a hypothetical build and I am assuming I can get any needed magic items along with having the Dungeon Master let me use sneak attack with unarmed strikes. It is Rogue Inquisitive 12/Artificer Armorer 5/Ranger Gloom Stalker 3. I would use a feat to gain the unarmed fighting style and use gantlets of ogre power to increase strength to nineteen for the unarmed strikes. I would use plate armor with the infiltrator amour from the Artificer armorer which negates the disadvantage on stealth from heavy armor. I would get a cloak of the bat for advantage on stealth checks along with being able to glide in the dark, it is also thematic. I left out some of the magic items I would get if I was playing. What do you think? Would this be a mechanically effective build and do you have any suggestions for it? God Bless, thank you and have a nice day if it is the Lord's will.
Disclaimer: I know little to nothing about Batman outside of the films so this would be my best guess at trying to build him:
Race: Human Variant (grabfighting intiate: unarmed)
Background: Noble or possibly Guild Artisan
Classes: Artificer for the first 4 levels to nab the Armorer subclass and a feat (grabbing Crossbow expert) then alternate levels of Rogue and Paladin upto level 20 nabbing pretty much any subclass for Rogue subclass and Oath of Conquest for Paladin subclass. All spells are flavoured as his gadgets/tech. Oath of Conquest Paladin can be easily flavoured to be more of a "anti crime" mentality and gives you several meancing class features for that intimidating "I'm Batman" moment and the addditional bonus of a smite now and then.
I'd recommend going with half-plate armor over full plate since Batman depends on agility as part of his defense.
I get what your saying but if I can use plate armor why not use plate armor? Does heavy armor reduce agility or something, am I forgetting a rule?
I think he means flavorwise. Heavy armor doesn't give any dex bonus to AC. I think I'd agree with the half plate for another reason though, then you could add a couple levels of barbarian for rage and reckless attack.

That and with half-plate you can take Medium Armor Mastery to cancel the disadvantage to stealth checks so that you actually can get advantage on them through Infiltration Armor. Since Advantage doesn't stack, having Advantage twice (from Infiltration Armor and Cloak of the Bat) and Disadvantage once (from the plate armor) means that they're still canceled out so you just roll flat. The other issue I see with this build is that you've got a heck of a lot of rogue levels but currently there's no means of dealing Sneak Attack damage with unarmed strikes because they don't count as a finesse weapon.
Also, reckless attack won't help this build much because it only applies to attacks made using strength and again, that can't be done with sneak attack. Beyond that, barbarian levels really don't fit Batman at all.

Find your own truth, choose your enemies carefully, and never deal with a dragon.
"Canon" is what's factual to D&D lore. "Cannon" is what you're going to be shot with if you keep getting the word wrong.

To my mind Batman tends to get pretty brutal at times and his fighting seems to be more strength based. But I'm not really a comic reader, just going mainly off the movies.
It varies considerably, as many things do in comic books since there are many different writers doing their own takes on characters. Especially with big-name characters like Batman who are adapted across so many different books, TV shows, and movies.
While Batman can be quite brutal, he tends to rely more heavily on out-thinking his opponents than out-muscling them. Especially when he's in the Justice League and there are characters like Superman and Wonder Woman around.

As aslightly differnt option, what about Rogue multiclass to Fighter (samurai), leave out artificer completely and go for the Batman Ninja aesthetic, you can have tinker tools as a bonus proficiency for human and use that to build various smoke bombs and other traps or equipment, you can still get Unarmed Fightign style and whatever armour feats you want to suit your play style.

Pretty wicked man. :)
Inquisitive Rogue - World’s Greatest Detective
Armorer Artificer - designing the Bat-suits / gadgets
Gloomstalker Ranger - ambushing from the shadows / ninja skills.
I think you’ve at least touched on each aspect of Batman with the build.

Start him out as a level one fighter with high intelligence and disguise self semi-proficiency.
