I'm probably dumb, but do I have to purchase something to have the choices that are normally in the player's handbook? Examples are the different oaths for the paladin (can only select devotion), the wizard arcane traditions (only evocation), the druid circle, the path of the barbarian, the monastic tradition, and basically every choice that a class has between levels 2/3. Why isn't it there? Do I have to get an expansion to the player's handbook https://mobdro****/https://vidmate****/?
Someone not on a phone can give a more complete answer, but if you have not bought anything on DDB you just have access to the basic rules. Basic rules have one subclass for most classes (it predates artificer). You would need to buy the players handbook on DDB to use the other subclass options in it (or recreate them for personal use using the homebrew tools on this site)

DDB only lets you have access to the "basic rules" for free. Meaning, like other RPGs, they provide you enough material to play.
However, unless you buy other books via DDB then your choice of things such as subclasses and feats will be severely limited. You can purchase individual subclasses if you don't want to have to pay for the whole book.

HERE.Yes, the player's handbook. It isn't any freer on DDB than it is at a game store.
Only content from free resources (the basic rules, SRD, EEPC, etc) are free on DDB.
