Depending on where you are located, I would recommend looking up Adventurer's League groups that may play out of your local game shops. Meeting with people in person will get you up to speed and in a game much faster than searching online will.
However, if you live somewhere without much access to other players, then you should look for a newbie friendly group in the Looking For Players & Groups subforum and just jump on in. They will be able to help screen-to-screen.
I don't know how to play D & D, but I'm interested if someone could help get me started.
