Sounds like a Dr Jekyll/Mr Hyde type character if I've ever heard one. Maybe Professor (something that sounds normal for whatever race you're playing) and Mr Jack.

I'd go with Dr Jack hell...but then I may be biased due to an idea I had a while back::
My artificer was named Clavius Windermere. My barbarian, Borgrim Wyldstrike. So, well, that's not much help. Borgrim van Windermere, maybe?

Blanket disclaimer: I only ever state opinion. But I can sound terribly dogmatic - so if you feel I'm trying to tell you what to think, I'm really not, I swear. I'm telling you what I think, that's all.
Oh boy, as someone who dug out my own little Artificer/Barbarian hole, the best method of coming up with a characters theme is to decide what you want their gadgets/inventions to be, and if they’re more of a Barbarian or more of an Artificer (this can be based off of your class levels or whichever’s flavor you like more).
my example is Tawara the Centipede, a worshiper of a flesh god (neutral good, surprisingly) who’s whole shtick was that his artificer gadgets were limbs he would graft onto himself as an act of empowerment and worship. His Eldritch canon was a red wyrmling’s head grafted onto his wrist stump and he was a Symic hybrid so he could get more arms later on. I went with path of the beast to get a tail, too, but any(most) path works.
as for building this character? I have huge thread on optimizing it which made some progress but didn’t result in a broken character build. The artificer just has more benefits to it than other half or full casters that make it uniquely suited to fighting without a reliance on spellcasting.
if you were to go with a Jekyll and Hyde type of character then I would actually say armorer instead of alchemist, with the armor simply reflavored to be their transformed state; granting them more AC similar to natural armor (which fits because the armorer’s armor can’t be taken off).
you definitely want to plan your build carefully, pick which features of each class you want the most and try to fit them in and remember that the artificer in some cases can supplement their low base stats with magic items (but this in itself is risky because the best magic item for this build can only be crafted at level 10).
best of luck, fellow follower on the path of Gamer-Rage(what I’ve named this combo).
we need more context but your characters name should tie into their race and background more than their classes but some good ones (I made up off the top of my head) are:
I need my dnd family to help me think of a good name for a Barbarian / Artificer?

I second Jack Hammer.

Easy - Edward Scissorhands

I dunno maybe a nickname can be “the mad professor” or “Doctor Battle axe.” I also think jack hammer is great.
