as the title says, can there be platinum dragonborn in RAW. l know the dm could rule that there are in the world they make, but could they exist as a rare mutation in RAW? lf so,what element would they be? could they be a multi type,ie acid breath one turn, fire the next? or boiling acid breath? (yeah l know that the last sentence would not be RAW,and would 100% be up to the dm) (l bet the answer is no,but l only have acess to the dnd beyond character maker free stuff so l dont know if PDBs have been added to any books.
No... according to D&D lore Bahamut is the only Platinum Dragon. If a Platinum Dragonborn was uh... born. It would be a huge deal. So if you want to play as a platinum Dragonborn it would have to be all homebrew.

oh no,the platinum DB is a npc for a campain idea i had who ("spoilers") was actualy tiamat. l wont go into the story, but yeah, the PDB is a npc and the sister of said platinum dragon (though l guess she would be a cromatic, not metalic but meh,l can just handwave some of that.)
You were asking about RAW, anything you add to the game through your own campaign is outside of RAW so really it's down to you if you think there could be a platinum dragonborn.
Because of the lore behind dragonborn, I would think a platinum one would be impossible.
Now a platinum half-dragon on the other hand is only very unlikely, not impossible. This would essentially make them noticeably a demigod (of goddly ancestry). Thought that doesn't necessarily mean they would have much if any divine power, but you can expect such an individual besides being a perfect example of its race would have a greatly extended lifespan.
I think word of a false heir would eventually reach Bahamut's ears though.
I kind of like the idea of Tiamat appearing as a Platinum Dragonborn. It would make her, essentially, a Jesus-like figure to worshippers of Bahamut, and it would be a good ruse to manipulate people for her own desires.
To be fair, there are technically THREE platinum dragons. but all three are gods, and Bahamut is the only one with wings. But yeah, highly unlikely if not impossible there would be a Platinum ancestry dragonborn because that would imply Bahamut, Lendys, or Tamara had a hand in creating the dragonborn. but then again, like Transmorpher said, a platinum half-dragon is unlikely but possible, they'd just be a full blooded demigod.
But Tiamat portraying herself as a platinum half-dragon or dragonborn as part of her machinations? totally within her portfolio.

l know right?! the idea is for the players to be like "wow a platnium dragonborn,l have never seen one b4,lt is obviously important to the plot!" l was thinking of describing her as "a dragonborn that looks silver, but not quite" hopeing to have someone roll well on a insight check or something, which (lf they have a platinum coin) would have them look in their coin pouch and realize that she is platinum, not silver) maybe lf asked about the impossability of platinum dragonborns, she could respond with them being a rare breed, from some place l know the party has never been.
Well, I'd imagine that a Silver Dragonborn wouldn't be like... the brilliant polished color of pure silver, but more likely a sort of dull grey with silver highlights. So having a character who appears a bright silvery color (to the point of looking like someone in full plate armor from a distance) would probably stand out pretty well
Oh, man, I LOVE the idea of Tiamat appearing as a platinum Dragonborn Messiah. That brings in some fun questions. How did she manifest an avatar outside of Avernus? How badly does Asmodeus (and Bel, and Zariel) want to keep her in Avernus? Would Asmodeus be willing to make a deal with some adventurers to do his dirty work for him? If so, what does he have that the party would want?

fun fun fun :)
well my idea is it takes place after doing the rise of tiamat story, but have it so,unknown to the players, she comes back, but powerless, and gets the partys help to bring her back to full power. at the end, after gaining her full power back, returns to her true form and gives the players a choice of:leave with your lives as your reward,or die. and see what happens from there, but be prepared for a tpk.
Not a lore master. However if I recall Bahamat is the favourite god for Dragonborn paladin so maybe go for the angle of the color being the dragon gods blessing
In the 2 years since this thread was created, FToD came out adding more lore and even a dragonborn of Bahamut that could easily be reskinned as a platinum dragonborn/half-dragon.
If OP even still needs it after so much time has passed...
Nothing really negative. I only skimmed the lore. The improved dragonborn are great, the feats are fine, I like the subclasses and wish there were more for other classes (why no dragon warlock?).

Agreed, l too am surprised there's still no Dragon pact Warlock.

Probably because in Draconic Warlock simply means "snack." So when someone asks a dragon if they can be their warlock, the dragon is happy to oblige.

Maybe to some dragons (*cough* white *cough* *cough*), but plenty of dragons are smart enough to put humans to good use. Hells, there is an entire cult (cult of the dragon, maybe you've heard of them) that frequently work with chromatic dragons. Then there are the metallic and gem dragons that hold no ill will toward good humanoids.
There really is no lore reason against a dragon patron warlock.

I didn't say human meant snack in draconic, I said warlock meant snack in Draconic. So sure, plenty of human and humanoid servitors of dragons, just those who ask to be a warlock didn't know what they were asking to a degree beyond typical warlock not fathoming the bargain.
