Our last session of Strahd is coming up. After that we are trying out Pathfinder. I've played DnD since the 70's. But even if they change their minds now, I will not go back. I will not support this company (management, anyway). Most of their new releases are watered down junk anyway.
Paizo is probably overjoyed at this news cycle. They have already gotten some of my money since, as I just bought the core rulebook.
I predict that within a year, Paizo, MCDM, CR and Kobald Press will have the top shares of the market of TTRPG products, and WotC/Hasbro will have so little market share that they will be sold off to the highest bidder and disappear for a decade.
lol maybe Elon will buy it and return it to it's former glory.
We will be watching history repeat itself, and they say time travel is all wibbly wobbly timey wimey. Might very well be an even number game version D&D curse?

lol, I tweeted at Elon to buy it from Hasbro and release D&D in the public domain the other day hah. I mean hell. He has destroyed more wealth than anyone in history. This time, let him do it for a GREAT cause! Free and OpenDnD!
There was alot of competition back then and we got to play new stuff.
Yeah, it happened with 4E and the GSL too! Hasbro / WotC got greedy and did pretty much the same thing. D&D 4E fell on it's face, 3PP started building material outside the D&D realm and PF2 was created.
Then for whatever reason, WotC / Hasbro hit the rewind button and played the same song again! So people never learn!

I predict that Hasbro almost goes bankrupt, but is saved when their Executive team opens a portal to the third layer of hell and Mammon pays off all their debts. The armies of the hells then sally forth from the Hasbro compound and lay waste to all of the Northwest until the forces of Weal unite and stop them at the Battle of the Snake River Gorge.
There will be very little third party support for DnD, and with several companies (notable Kobold) announcing new open license RPG's the competition will be fierce. Even if DnD retains their #1 spot in the industry their market share will be greatly reduced. That good for the players.

People never learn from other people's mistakes, only their own.
I guess the top brass at WOTC and Hasbro have changed since the release of 4th edition.
Im thinking that One D&D will eventually remove the DMs role. This will be nothing more then a video game at that point. They already want to stifle DMs creativity. What better way to do it by removing the role.
Wizards are squishy. They should know better than to get into melee with an ORC. Doesn't matter what they do with their OGL/GSL they are standing in the middle of the bridge they set fire to a week ago and have done nothing to attempt to put it out.
I am predicting the stock of HAS by a comfy short position lol. Otherwise I couldn’t care less I’m moving onto different systems and encouraging as many people I know to boycott wotc content and anything related.

D&D will survive. Maybe with another company, maybe with WotC, but it'll survive. Its a part of culture. When the layman thinks of a TTRPG, its D&D that comes to mind. Until they're aware of it, if you sit them down at a Pathfinder game, they'll think its D&D at first and have to be corrected.
I wouldn't be surprised if D&D gets rebranded to some other wacky name, but it'll still be thought of as D&D. That's the biggest thing Hasbro owns with the IP on D&D. Its legacy and its permanence in regular culture.

That's the thing. DnD as a nebulous genre/system is mainstream. But that does not mean something like Pathfinder wouldn't become vastly more popular. It just means everyone would reference pathfinder as DnD (outside of core audiences). They may look at this system but in the end they would move to the superior one. Either way, a cataclysm has struck DnD as we know it, now we must watch and see how it shakes out.

I predict that predictions on what will happen next in murky and unclear situations such as this are bound to be inaccurate.
BoringBard's long and tedious posts somehow manage to enrapture audiences. How? Because he used Charm Person, the #1 bard spell!
He/him pronouns. Call me Bard. PROUD NERD!

I still remember the end of TSR.

What future?

there is potential irony of WotC publishing under ORC licence in the future.
I also have maybe 1 or 2 Strahd sessions to go btw... good luck going for that TPK :)

D&D is Now Trash
Goodbye
That assumes they survive this incendiary sh!t show they started and are making no effort to extinguish.
