...that the D&D team was also on our side. They leaked the OGL and other internal documents so that we would see it and get just as upset as they were. It was their subtle way of saying we're on the same side and Hasbro/WotC were the villains here. Let's please not vilify the good people on the D&D team.
This is possible. What is more likely though is that Wizards of the Coast leaked the documents themselves, and several lines in the article suggest it. But anyways, that does seem... Like it would be a really stupid move by Wizards. So I dunno.
That being said, I do agree with you that the people in charge of DDB should not be blamed for this, they were just following orders.

The OLG wasn't the only thing leaked though. Other internal communications have been leaked and at least one anonymous source inside WotC has been talking to the media. There is a whistleblower, apparently fairly high up, in the company that is leaking this information.
While I agree that there are people working at DnD Beyond and WotC who actually care about D&D and the people who play it, the vibe I got from that comment was more of a, “**** you all, get over yourselves and keep giving us your money” kind of vibe. It seems to me that WotC are trying really hard to make us feel like they were misunderstood and they’ve always been on our side, but there was nothing of substance in their announcement. They didn’t actually acknowledge or change anything that the community was mad about. They say “we won” because that implies that this is over and we ought to be happy about how it turned out, but it’s not and we don’t.
What they ment was oh **** they caught us better make some stuff up about racism and evil big corporations to make sure we atleast get some people on our side before we just stop talking about and hope the dnd beyond subscriptions stabilize. Reminder the leakers just gained huge credibility today with the actual delaying of the new OGL roll out. Which means they are watching dnd beyond subs and them trying to gaslight us into thinking we "won" when this isn't even close to over means they are actually worried. They're hoping this community is dumb enough to actually just straight up forget about this whole thing or atleast hoping we'll stop talking about it long enough for new subs to start coming in before they just roll it out anyway its a war of attrition, but we're the ones with all the water and food. Look we all love dnd but our love for dnd was enhanced by all those 3rd party supplements on kick starter and content creators on YouTube if we lose that we lose a huge part of the reason a lot of us first got into the game and I'm down to play different ttrpgs if you guys are. For now all we can do is wait and just not buy anything dnd related especially not on dnd beyond.

Just to be clear, YouTube content creators and other streaming people were unaffected by the OGL 1.1 unless they were publishing and selling content. That's a lot of the big ones but just streaming wasn't included in anything on the OGL.
For now all we can do is wait and just not buy anything dnd related especially not on dnd beyond.
I won't be buying any new DND content, but I am also not abandoning it. Our games will continue. If the recent promises prove to be lies and they go forward with their predatory things then maybe we'll move on from DND. We haven't actually talked about it. I personally am very much in wait and see mode.
Too little too late. I have no faith in WOTC/Hasbro. Their backpedaling and revisionist history is too telling. I will not willing to play D&D until the game publishes under ORC.
Also, i have no intention of going to see the D&D movie in the theater. I am going to wait until it shows up for free on one of my streaming services.

This person needs to be found, charged with industrial espionage, immediately fired, and then sued for damages caused by their unauthorised press releases - including all the loss of profits and everything else. Then, if at all possible, they need to be prosecuted.
There is a right way and a wrong way to do things, and they chose the wrong way, the inconvenient way, which has caused significant harm to their employers, the company and its shareholders. As well as embarrassment and damage to the public image of the D&D brand, Wizards of The Coast, and Hasbro.
There are rules for a reason. There are laws for a reason. Someone who breaks the rules, and violates the law, be that criminal law, public law, or corporate law, deserves to be punished.

You seem to be a bit rusty about what a whistlblower is. Here is the definition! Whistleblower - Noun - a person who informs on a person or organization engaged in an illicit activity. What WotC was attempting to do is in fact illegal, but they are hoping that no one will have the money or resources to challenge them on it. The original intent of OGL 1.0 was that it could never be deauthorized / revoked. So they tried to strongarm a bunch of 3PP to essentially "voluntarily" sign away their rights to the OGL 1.0. T
This whistleblower is a hero and should be treated as such. If not for them we would not have known about this terrible dumpster fire until it was too late.

There are systems in place to challenge something unjust.
Take it to the courts and let the law decide.
That is the correct way, the only way for justice to prevail.
Rules and laws are all that separate us from animals. Evil reigns over animals, corrupting and compromising, so our empire of law must be incorruptible; it must be uncompromising, and if it falls, then we pick it up and hold it even higher.
We do not take matters into our own hands, acting as judge and jury and executioner all.
Open that door even once, and it will never be closed again.
Do I understand their desire, their intent? Absolutely! I applaud them for it, but as I said, they did it the wrong way, the inconvenient way, and for that, they should pay the price.

Factually incorrect. Great injustice is often only found and dealt with IN COURT when someone whistleblows. Horrible abusive situations have been resolved thanks to whistleblowers. Comparing them to vigilantes is simply inaccurate.
As a person involved in the law, it is not perfect. It is biased in MANY ways towards different groups. It isn’t this perfect thing. It IS corruptible. Certain “evils” are expressly allowed under law as the process to change that law is long and expensive, and usually not a vote winner so no one touches it.
These people saw something bad happening to something that means a lot to the community and did exactly what they needed to. The fact that WOTC is now “apparently” witch-hunting is a sign that they likely have some skeletons in the closet and some rather unethical things going on
Someone pride was hurt at WotC and thier ego couldn't let it go they wrong, that is how I took thus message. No matter the age or intelligence, some people are child still and the executive who insisted this be in the comment strikes me as a spoiled child.

This! And like it was stated above.... no one put their name to that response.... and no one probably ever will because it was an exec and they make the rules. The sooner the good people leave WOTC the better. Get out and make RPG gaming great and stop putting your heart and work into a company that does this.
Remember honorable WOTC employees, you are not your company. A crystal dragon is a good reminder that you worked for a company, but doesn't speak at all to the work you created. Be fearless, when your morals and ethics separate from the management's (no matter how far 'above' they are), it's time to separate from them, otherwise you just work to achieve their goals and enforce their morals and ethics.
The court of public opinion can be more persuasive and impactful than a court of law, seeing as how it can prevent the court of law from being necessary.

Please cite the law being violated.
How about violating a contract/license? OGL 1.0 was intended to ALWAYS be there. The creators of the original OGL have confirmed that. What WotC is betting on is that since it did not have wording to make it irrevocable they could try to de-auth/invalidate it. But in the OGL 1.0 it gives the rights of 3PP to choose whatever license they wish, be it 1.0 or future revisions. So here is the crux, can the revoke the license, in the process violating the "spirit of the law" so to say of the original creators or can they just invalidate it and say "Oh hey! We know the OGL 1.0 said you couldchoose, but F-you. You have to use OGL 2.0 because we decided to the old OGL is no longer a thing"
Creators of contracts and licenses can have a large influence on a court case. And it seems the creators are not on the same side as WotC. I wish the best for D&D and I hope that the C-Suite of WotC always comes home to find their septic plumbing overflowing and Legos all over the floor.
The plain fact that the OGL was intended to be just "dropped" on content creators a few days ago, instead of announced and discussed first is WHY whoever leaked the OGL should be Knighted and declared a Defender of all that is good.
