An individual in a campaign I am running has all 3 core books (2024) and we have enabled sharing so we can all view and use them.
It would seem, however, that I cannot use that content with character creation in a different campaign. Is that correct?
Assuming that, I went to purchase the 2024 players handbook so I can use those options in other campaigns, however, it is saying I already own this content. I double checked my purchase history and it is not in there.
So, it seems that dnd beyond sees the shared 2024 players handbook and is warning me I own in when in fact I do not and can not use it in campaigns outside of the one with the player who is sharing said book.
Does all this make sense and is this the case, or am I missing something?
You're correct that character options you're getting from content shared with you in a campaign can only be used on characters in that campaign.
However, having access to a book through content sharing should not stop you from purchasing that book yourself. If it's doing that, you should probably put in a support request.
You can only use shared content on the character builder in the campaign where it is shared. However that doesn't stop you creating characters in that campaign and then moving them to a different campaign.
As for being told you own it if you're looking on the app you won't be able to buy shared books, the option is gone and replaced with either download or open, but if you go to the marketplace on the website you should be able to purchase the books without a problem (they also unlock quicker than the app because it doesn't have to go through a third party to confirm payment)

Thank you for the clarification.
Using the website, it says I already own this digital product and it will not let me purchase it, unless I click the "digital gift" box.
Having checked my order history, I am not seeing the book as purchased.
The real confusion comes in when I started creating a level 3 rogue and my drop down options for subclass does not include the regular 2024 options.
