So i have this old character that i played (a silver dragon, and yes it is ancient now) who after the campaign was over started guarding artifacts like sword of kas etc. from bad hands, so if he were to attune to the book, would guarding the powerful artifacts be a good deed(that he has to do every 10 days)?
That's kind of something you need to talk to your DM about. Personally, I would say "no" since I feel that guarding something is more maintaining a status quo, rather than going out and actively promoting Good and life/healing in the world.
The Book of Exalted Deeds (based on the 3rd edition book of the same name) is supposed to represent the pinnacle of Good in the multiverse, and pushes its holders to embody it as best they can. Good cares about doing good works, making lives better, spreading radiant energy, destroying evil, etc. Its active, not passive. Now, taking an evil artifact and locking it away? That could be a good act of one time. Watching the lock, however, is not. Destroying said artifacts might count.
Take a look at the book itself. Once read, it -leaves- and finds new people to read it. Its actively spreading around the world, not sitting in the hands of one good person.
