when they die (ie stake in heart, decapitation ect) to they just slump to the floor or do they turn to dust like in "buffy"? if they turn to dust,do their cloths "dust" as well,or does only their skin/bones dust?

No?” will be my epitaph.
If the vampire cannot transform, it cannot use Misty Escape.

But if they are too far from their resting place and cannot reach it within the 2 hours, what happens when their Mist form is destroyed? Do they revert to their body with their equipment right there and fall to the ground?
It is whatever the DM decides. It isn’t specified in the rules, so each DM can choose for themselves what happens. I like to put clues & trinkets and money, or even magic items on my villains, so I leave the corpses so the party can lute it if they want to, but there’s no reason that a vampire couldn’t simply evaporate and leave a magic ring or whatever behind.
I rule that a Vampire that has dropped to 0 hp, and that is now in mist form (misty escape), can be hit with magical attacks. When damaged while it is misty escaping, it dies outright once it goes negative hp equal to its total hp. It leaves no body - the mist evaporates
Mine explode bloodily, disgorging an amount of blood equal to whatever they managed to ingest in their Vampiric form - messy. Depends on the people at your table and how well you know them. One hard rule I'd say - make it exciting, slaying a Vampire's kind of a big deal! If you know there's Buffy fans - go Buffy, if they're more Anne Rice, maybe play it that way. Super-good opportunity to show off/build some narrative/story telling skills and create a "cool moment".

According to the source, a shapechanged vampire returns to its true form if it dies while shapechanged. A vampire's clothes shapechange with it.
The reads like a vampire's body (and clothes) remain in death.
...but that's also no fun. I'd house rule stuff to make it reliant on the individual vampires.
EDIT: No. I wouldn't house-rule only the clothes turn to dust and not the rest of the vampire, but that would be funny.

They turn into vampiric mists and try to return to their resting place to recover
This. As detailed in the misty escape feature.

The vampire on my desk turned to dust, and then we met him again when a higher vampire resurrected him from that dust! It was a great moment with an unexpected twist.
